The Villa of Teguise and La Graciosa hosted the central events of the Carmen Festivities this Thursday, with land and sea processions that brought together hundreds of locals and visitors.
The day began in the Villa of Teguise with the Solemn Religious Function at the main church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, presided over by the Reverend Antonio Perera Pérez. The Eucharist, accompanied by the Parish Choir, gathered numerous faithful in the main temple of the municipality.
After the mass, the image of Our Lady of Carmen paraded through the streets of the Historical Ensemble in a procession escorted by civil and military authorities. The Municipal Band Teguiband provided the musical backdrop as hundreds of people accompanied with devotion.
The Mayor Highlights the Rooting of the Tradition
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, congratulated the residents of La Villa and La Graciosa for keeping alive celebrations that “are part of the municipality's identity.” She highlighted the participation and respect with which the events were experienced.
The councillor for Culture and Festivities, Andoni Machín, emphasized that “the day of Carmen once again demonstrates the ability of our festivities to bring entire generations together around our traditions.” He added that these events reinforce “the feeling of belonging and the value of our cultural and religious heritage.”
La Graciosa Pays Tribute to the Patroness of Fishermen
In the afternoon, the celebration moved to La Graciosa, where the traditional Maritime Procession took place. The image of the Virgin boarded the Lorenza y Manuel, followed by more than fifty boats that sailed along the coast of La Graciosa.
Upon arrival at the Caleta del Sebo dock, the Virgin was welcomed by hundreds of people. A floral offering was held in memory of those who have died at sea, a deeply emotional act. The day included the performance of the Ave Maria by Juan Antonio
