The Ingenio Town Hall has opened several public tenders to renew children's areas, install smart pedestrian crossings, and create an accessible route. Companies have until the end of July to submit their bids.
The Ingenio Town Hall has launched a series of tenders totalling over 1.8 million euros in investments to improve safety, accessibility, and public spaces in the municipality. The projects, published on the Public Sector Contracting Platform, include everything from the renovation of playgrounds to the creation of an accessible tourist route, as well as the installation of smart pedestrian crossings and the reinforcement of lifeguard services on the beaches.
Safer parks for the little ones
One of the most immediate actions is the improvement of the children's areas in the parks of La Jurada and La Capellanía, with a budget of 53,527.69 euros. The mixed contract for works and supply includes the renovation of safety flooring with shock-absorbing surfaces and artificial grass, as well as the supply and installation of new playground equipment. Residents in these areas will be able to enjoy more modern and safer facilities from next autumn, provided the deadlines are met.
Interested companies have until 24 July to submit their bids. This investment aims not only to improve children's leisure but also to promote coexistence in these public spaces, which are heavily used by families in the municipality.
Smart pedestrian crossings to prevent accidents
Road safety is also a focus with the tender to install smart pedestrian crossings on Juliano Bonny street, around the Health Centre and between numbers 38 and 73. The base budget is 29,658.35 euros, funded by a grant from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The system includes sensors, LED plates, and illuminated vertical signage that activates upon detecting pedestrians, actively warning drivers.
This technology, which is already operational in other Canary municipalities, improves visibility at conflict crossings and reduces the risk of accidents. The project, which also includes civil works and pavement replacement, is particularly beneficial for the elderly, children, and people with disabilities, who will gain autonomy when crossing the street. Bids will be accepted until 24 July.
Surveillance on the beaches throughout the summer
The coastline of Ingenio will also be reinforced with the hiring of surveillance, rescue, lifeguard, and healthcare services on the municipality's beaches. The contract, with an execution period of four years, will be activated each summer season, from 1 July to 30 September. The estimated value amounts to 199,756 euros, and the budget for the first year is 53,434.73 euros.
The beaches of Ingenio, which are very popular with both residents and tourists, will thus have a professional service to ensure the safety of bathers. Companies can submit their bids until 27 July.
An accessible walkway that connects history and nature
The most ambitious project is the “Accessible Route Calle La Rueda – Parque Néstor Álamo”, with a base tender budget of 1,540,041.71 euros. This work, part of the Accessible and Smart Tourist Route, will connect the Molino de los López, home to the Water and Sugar Museum, with the lower part of Parque Néstor Álamo.
The project includes the renovation of a section of Calle La Rueda, the creation of a new resting area, and the construction of a metal walkway that will overcome a difficult slope, allowing an accessible and cyclable route between the historic centre and the park. The funding comes from the Tourism and Employment Department of the Government of the Canary Islands, with 1.2 million euros, and from the Ingenio Town Hall, which contributes 340,041.71 euros from its own funds.
The expected execution period is twelve months, so residents will be able to enjoy this new pedestrian and cycling corridor throughout 2027. Bids will be accepted until 28 July. This route will not only improve daily mobility but also enhance cultural and nature tourism in the municipality, offering a barrier-free path.
Overall, these tenders reflect the Ingenio Town Hall's commitment to modernising the municipality and improving the quality of life for its citizens, with special attention to safety, accessibility, and leisure. Companies in the sector still have a few days to submit their proposals and contribute to these projects that will transform the urban and coastal landscape of the locality.
