On August 1, El Burrero Beach will host a new edition of the Environmental Awareness, Education, and Action Days, featuring coastal and marine clean-ups, talks, and turtle releases.
On August 1, El Burrero Beach will become the epicentre of ecological awareness in Ingenio. The day will kick off at 9:30 AM with a coastal and marine clean-up, an event expected to see participation from locals, associations, and sports clubs. The Ingenio Town Council, through the Department of Ecological Transition, Sustainability, and Beaches, has organised a free programme that will run until 2:00 PM.
Talks and Workshops for All Audiences
The programme includes informative talks led by researchers from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). Topics will cover marine biodiversity, circular economy, climate change, and the conservation of natural heritage. Entities such as RedPROMAR, the Nature Rescue Association, and the Gran Canaria Recycling Project will also participate.
For the little ones, there will be educational workshops, educational games, environmental face painting, and recycling activities. The group Cancionero Isleño will present the shows 'La Ballena Borondona' and 'Islazul', which combine music and ecological awareness. Additionally, a themed parade will traverse the Maritime Avenue to enliven the morning.
Turtle Release, the Highlight Moment
One of the most anticipated moments will be the release of sea turtles recovered by the Wildlife Recovery Centre of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. Technicians will provide a prior talk on rescue and conservation efforts, and then release the specimens on the coast, a gesture that symbolises the commitment to protecting marine biodiversity.
The day is part of municipal actions to maintain the environmental quality criteria required by the international Blue Flag programme. Councillor Martín García has encouraged citizens to participate and thanked all the involved entities for their collaboration. At the end of the clean-up, volunteers will receive a small tasting and a corporate gift.
To participate in the clean-up, simply approach the Surveillance and Lifeguard Post at 9:30 AM, although it is recommended to bring protective gloves. The rest of the activities will take place on Maritime Avenue and do not require prior registration.
