The Candelaria Town Hall hosts the opening of the exhibition and the award presentation for the third edition of the Tamaimos Awards, which recognise experimentation with local clay.
The third edition of the Tamaimos Awards for Experimental Proposals using Local Clay takes place this Friday, July 17, at the Candelaria Town Hall. The event, starting at 19:00 in the town hall lobby, combines the opening of an exhibition featuring the submitted works and the presentation of awards in two categories: professional and student/amateur.
Exhibition open to the public for several weeks
The exhibition will be open for viewing in two periods. From July 20 to 24, from 08:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00. Afterwards, from July 28 to August 7, it will only be open in the morning (08:00 to 13:00), except on August 1 and 2, when it will be closed.
The public will have the opportunity to closely view the experimental works with local clay that have competed in this edition. The exhibition is free and open to all residents and visitors of Candelaria.
Six awards in two categories
The awards are divided into three categories for each section. In the professional category: 1st Professional Award for Experimentation with Local Clay, Professional Award for Design, and Professional Award for Experimentation. In the student/amateur category: 1st Student/Amateur Award for Experimentation with Local Clay, Student/Amateur Award for Design, and Student/Amateur Award for Experimentation.
The jury consists of ceramicist Ernesto Rodríguez, potter Isabel Miranda Galindo, designer and sculptor Mauricio Jiménez, the Candelaria Councillor for Culture, Manuel González, and the representative of the Fundación Canaria Tamaimos, Raúl Guanche, who acts as secretary. The general coordination is managed by Stefany Baute from Varabara Creative People.
Complementary activities and closure
During the week following the inauguration, the exhibition will maintain morning and afternoon hours. From July 28, it will only be open in the mornings. On Tuesday, August 4 at 19:00, a guided tour and a round table discussion with the participants will be held, after which the exhibition will close its doors.
The Tamaimos Awards aim to promote experimentation with local clay, a material with a rich tradition in the Canary Islands. The initiative, driven by the Fundación Canaria Tamaimos and Varabara Creative People, seeks to give visibility to new creators and recognise innovation in ceramics.
For art and craft lovers, this is a unique opportunity to see contemporary proposals with Canarian roots. Admission is free, and it is recommended to check the hours before attending, especially in August, when the town hall reduces its activities.
