The Candelaria City Council has opened the application period for sports grants for 2026, with a total allocation of €90,000. The funds will be distributed among clubs and individual athletes in the municipality.

The Candelaria City Council has published the call for sports grants for 2026, with a budget of €90,000 aimed at supporting clubs and athletes in the municipality. The application period starts this Wednesday, July 16, and extends until August 6, both inclusive.

Distribution of funds: €70,000 for entities and €20,000 for athletes

Of the total €90,000, €70,000 is allocated to non-profit sports clubs and associations, while the remaining €20,000 is designated for individual athletes registered in Candelaria. The mayor, Mari Brito, highlighted that "the sport of Candelaria gives us reasons to feel proud every year, and this call is our way of supporting the daily efforts of clubs and athletes."

The Councillor for Sports, Manuel González, explained that the grants aim to cover expenses related to sports activities, such as travel, equipment, or competition registrations. "We want no club or athlete to be without the support they deserve," said the councillor, who reminded that the amount remains the same as in the previous edition.

How to apply for the grants: electronic headquarters and prior appointment

Sports entities must submit their applications through the Electronic Headquarters of the Candelaria City Council. Individual athletes can choose to apply online or, with a prior appointment, visit the Citizen Attention Service. The deadline ends on August 6, with no possibility of extension.

The complete bases of the call are available on the municipal website, in the Sports area, Grants section. There, the requirements, necessary documentation, and evaluation criteria are detailed. Eligible expenses include transport, equipment, and insurance, as long as they are linked to official competitions or promotional events of the municipality.

The mayor emphasized the competitive level of Candelaria's athletes, whom she described as "true ambassadors" of the municipality. In recent years, several local clubs have achieved success in regional and national categories, which has motivated the council to maintain financial support. "They are a source of pride for all of us," Brito stated.

For individual athletes, the main requirement is to be registered in Candelaria and participate in official competitions or events of significant relevance. The maximum amount per athlete will be determined based on the number of applications and the available budget, although the City Council assures that it will try to accommodate all who meet the criteria.

The council reminds that applications submitted late or incorrectly will be rejected. Therefore, they recommend reviewing the bases in advance and, in case of doubt, contacting the Sports area. The call is part of the local government's commitment to promote physical activity and grassroots sports as tools for social cohesion and health.

In previous editions, the grants have allowed clubs such as CD Candelaria or Club Baloncesto Candelaria to cover competition and training expenses. This year, the City Council expects high participation, given the increasing number of sports entities in the municipality. The application period, lasting just three weeks, requires interested parties to expedite the procedures.

Athletes competing outside the island tend to benefit the most, as travel and accommodation costs are high. "Without these grants, many would not be able to compete at the level they do," noted Manuel González. The call also includes athletes with disabilities, as long as they are federated and participate in official competitions.

To facilitate the process, the City Council has set up an information phone line and a specific email address. Additionally, the electronic headquarters allows for online submission with a digital certificate or Cl@ve. Athletes opting for a prior appointment must request it at least 48 hours in advance.

The mayor concluded by encouraging all sports groups to submit their applications: "Candelaria is a sports benchmark in Tenerife, and these grants are an impetus to continue growing." The deadline will close on August 6, and the City Council expects to resolve the grants within a maximum of three months.
