From July 31 to August 9, El Cabezo Beach will host the PWA/WWT World Championship, the Spanish Championship, and the debut of the Foil Drive Challenge.
The winds and waves of El Médano will once again be the stage for the world elite of windsurfing. From July 31 to August 9, El Cabezo Beach in Granadilla de Abona will host the PWA/WWT Open, Junior, and Masters World Championship for the twelfth time, in both female and male categories. This event, which has become a classic of the Tenerife summer, promises a display of jumps, maneuvers, and speed that will delight fans.
New Features: Spanish Championship and Foil Drive Challenge
This year, the Wind&Waves Festival introduces two major innovations. On one hand, the Open Spanish Championship, also in female and male categories, will take place alongside the World Championship. This makes Tenerife the epicenter of national and international windsurfing for ten days. On the other hand, the Foil Drive Challenge makes its debut, a proposal that combines equipment showcases, exhibitions, and a weekend of competition, bringing the latest technologies in water sports closer to the public.
The Foil Drive is an electric propulsion system that attaches to foil boards, allowing navigation without the need for wind. A trend that is revolutionizing the surfing world and that attendees will be able to see in action. According to the organizers, Blue Light Events, this event aims to showcase the future of water sports.
A Festival for the Whole Family
Beyond the competition, the Wind&Waves Festival offers a parallel program designed for all audiences. The venue will feature a large main tent that will house a commercial area, dining spaces, and a children's area. The little ones can enjoy activities while adults follow the competitions or simply soak up the surfing atmosphere.
Live music, talks, and various leisure proposals complete the offer. All of this in a unique setting, El Cabezo Beach, known for its constant wind conditions, ideal for windsurfing. The festival is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida brand; the Tenerife Council, with its Tenerife Despierta Emociones brand; and the Granadilla de Abona City Council.
Additionally, brands such as Playa Surf CBbC Hotel, Balearia, Veinte 04, Future Fly Boards, and Foil Drive sponsor the event. This institutional and commercial backing consolidates the event as one of the most important on the international windsurfing calendar.
For the local public, this event is an opportunity to see the best riders in the world in action without leaving the island. For tourists, it is an additional incentive to visit Tenerife in summer. El Médano is already preparing to welcome competitors from over thirty countries, who will compete for the world title in various categories.
The festival will kick off on July 31 with the first qualifying heats and will run until August 9, when the finals will take place. Entry is free for the public, except in some reserved areas. The schedule and full program can be consulted on the official event website.
