The national president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, presented Carmen Pérez this Friday as the candidate for the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife at an event in the TEA. The new PP candidate promises active listening and a 'boost' for the capital of Tenerife.

The Popular Party has mobilised all its national machinery in support of the municipal race in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, travelled this Friday to the Tenerife capital to sponsor Carmen Pérez as the candidate for Mayor, at an event held at the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), which was also attended by the party leader in the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez.

The new PP candidate introduced herself as "the candidate for change" and assured that "the change is beginning at the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife". Pérez, who replaces Carlos Tarife as the head of the list, promised a management style based on active listening and direct contact with the residents.

Feijóo links the Santa Cruz candidacy to the PP's national strategy

Feijóo opened the event by advocating for the PP's commitment to the Canary Islands and linked the presentation of the candidacies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the party's national strategy for the capitals. The popular leader stated that Carmen Pérez is "in love with Santa Cruz de Tenerife" and maintained that the candidate "has no ceiling".

The national president of the PP also thanked Carlos Tarife for his work, who has been the most visible face of the party in the municipal race in Santa Cruz, and described him as "an asset to the party, wherever he is". The change comes after Tarife led the municipal group for the past few years.

Feijóo's appearance combined support for the new candidate with a speech of national significance. The PP leader took aim at Pedro Sánchez's government and announced that, if he reaches La Moncloa, he will promote an "institutional cleaning plan". In that context, he defended measures such as the prohibition of pardons for corruption and asserted that "public money is sacred", while also defining the Canary Islands as "the ground zero of Sánchez's corruption".

Carmen Pérez promises active listening and a 'boost' for the city

Carmen Pérez took the floor amidst shouts of "mayor", in an address marked by gratitude to the party leadership, the present officials, and her personal circle. The candidate stated that she feels "honoured" and "very emotional", and recalled that she stepped into politics with the intention of being useful.

"I do not understand public service if it is not to improve the life of the chicharrero", defended Pérez, who assured that she knows the streets and shares the concerns of the residents of Santa Cruz. The candidate insisted that there is still "a lot of work to be done" and advocated for walking the neighbourhoods, listening to the citizens, and maintaining direct relationships with the residents.

One of the key points of her speech was active listening. "The neighbour must know that their voice is heard and is important", she stated. Pérez also aimed to establish a line of continuity with the work of the PP municipal group and praised Carlos Tarife, whose efforts were also acknowledged by Feijóo and Domínguez.

"I am not here to break anything, but to give the boost that is needed", assured the popular candidate. Pérez argued that cities "do not freeze", but must take on new challenges, and maintained that Santa Cruz de Tenerife needs a fresh and ambitious perspective for the coming years.

The event at the TEA gathered dozens of PP members and supporters, as well as representatives from the social and economic fabric of the capital. Pérez's candidacy will be formalised in the coming weeks, ahead of the municipal elections in 2027.
