Elite women's football arrives for the first time in Fuerteventura. On July 29, the Municipal Stadium of Los Pozos in Puerto del Rosario will host the I Torneo Fuerteventura FutFem Coral Hotels, a pre-season friendly match between CD Tenerife Costa Adeje and RCD Espanyol, both from the women's First Division. Entry will be free, and the match will be broadcast live on Televisión Canaria.
A Boost for Women's Sports on the Island
The initiative comes from the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, which aims to attract top-level sports events and promote women's sports. The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, stated that
“it is a satisfaction that Fuerteventura hosts a match of this nature for the first time, placing the island on the map of national women's football and bringing elite sports closer to our population.”The Town Hall of Puerto del Rosario collaborates by providing the facilities.
The councillor for Sports, Luis González, noted that
“this match represents another step in the work we are doing to diversify the island's sports offerings and continue supporting the growth of women's sports.”The tournament is intended to be a recurring event, according to the authorities.
Free Clinic for Young Footballers
The visit of CD Tenerife Costa Adeje includes a training activity for future generations. On July 30 and 31, the Fundación Canaria CD Tenerife will organise a free clinic at the El Cotillo football field, aimed at girls aged 10 to 16. There will be a maximum of 40 spots and it will include training sessions with club professionals, breakfast, equipment, a welcome kit, diploma, and medal.
Registrations are already open through the website of the Fundación Tenerife Costa Adeje. The Cabildo of Fuerteventura collaborates in this initiative along with the Government of the Canary Islands, Coral Hotels, and the Fundación Canaria of the Inter-Island Football Federation of Las Palmas, as well as the Town Hall of La Oliva.
The match will start at 18:15. For local families, it is a unique opportunity to see two historic teams of Spanish women's football live at no cost. Additionally, the clinic offers girls the chance to train with sports role models. The event promises to be a milestone in the island's sports agenda.
