The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has signed agreements with four social entities to fund mental health, oncology, and dementia projects. The agreements, announced this Friday, aim to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has allocated funds to four social projects that assist people with mental health issues, oncology patients, and those suffering from dementia. The initiative, announced this Friday, is part of the policy of collaboration with the third sector.
Funded projects for mental health and oncology
Among the supported programs is 'Metamorfosis', from the Asomasamen Association, an individualised therapeutic accompaniment programme for people with mental health problems. The project aims to promote personal autonomy and social inclusion for participants.
Another project is 'Movvida: Movement and Life for Oncology Patients in Fuerteventura', driven by the Fuerteyoga association. This initiative offers a circuit of physical exercise, therapeutic yoga, and mindfulness for those undergoing active oncology treatment.
The Corporation will also fund the Oncology Wigs Project, from the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association, which facilitates access to wigs to improve patients' self-esteem and emotional well-being.
Care for people with dementia
The fourth agreement has been signed with the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients and Other Dementias of Fuerteventura (AFFA) for the 'Retales de la Memoria' programme. This project provides comprehensive care for people with dementia, promoting their functional and cognitive autonomy, and offers support to their families and caregivers.
The Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, highlighted that "these agreements represent a demonstration of this City Council's firm commitment to people, especially those facing situations of greater vulnerability."
The Councillor for Public Health, Rosa Rodríguez, stated that "health promotion must be approached from a comprehensive perspective, supporting initiatives that complement healthcare and focus on accompaniment, prevention, and emotional well-being."
Impact on the municipality's residents
The residents of Puerto del Rosario will be able to access these services for free or at low cost, depending on the conditions of each association. The projects are designed to assist people from the municipality, although some entities also extend their work across the entire island of Fuerteventura.
With these agreements, the City Council consolidates its collaboration with the local associative fabric, recognising the essential role of social entities in public policies. The agreements have an annual duration and may be renewed based on the results.
