The La Banda neighbourhood in Agüimes will celebrate its traditional Romería Ofrenda to the Virgen del Carmen this Friday, departing at 19:30 from Llano Blanco. The festivities, which began on July 10, will continue until Sunday the 19th with dances, a popular paella, and religious events.

The Romería Ofrenda, which will depart at 19:30 from Llano Blanco, will feature the participation of the folk groups Risco Verde, Tacoremi, and Tesey. After the procession, the La Banda square will host a dance of taifa and a party with the Guajara Show group.

Saturday's programme: children's activities and procession

On Saturday, July 18, the water play park and foam party will be the highlights of the morning in the neighbourhood square. In the afternoon, at 18:00, the image of the Virgen del Carmen will be transferred to the church of Buen Suceso, where a Eucharist will be celebrated. The subsequent procession will be accompanied by the Tacoremi Folk Group.

Saturday's festivities will conclude with a large party featuring D-Music and Leyenda Joven, along with the traditional distribution of chicken broth for attendees. Community participation in these festivities has been notable, according to sources from the organisation.

Closing Sunday: paella and solajero party

On Sunday, July 19, the festivities will conclude with a communal toast and a paella in the La Banda square. In the evening, the solajero party, enlivened by Son Karibe, will provide the final touch to nine days of togetherness. Performances by Neulio Santana and Abelito SS will close the programme.

Since the start on July 10, the festivities have included a triangular football match between veterans from La Banda, Carrizal, and Montaña de Los Vélez, a batucada, Family Day with a popular barbecue, a tug-of-war tournament, Escala en Hi-Fi, and a dance for seniors. These celebrations have established themselves as a reference point for community gatherings in Agüimes, as highlighted by the organisers.

For the residents of La Banda and visitors, this Friday's event is the most anticipated in the festive calendar. The Romería Ofrenda is not only a religious act but also a demonstration of the cultural identity of the neighbourhood. It is recommended to arrive early to enjoy the atmosphere and the folk performances that will enliven the procession.
