Seven people were affected this Sunday afternoon in a collision between two vehicles on the GC-1, southbound, in Agüimes, which caused one of them to roll over on its side.

A traffic accident recorded near midday this Sunday on the motorway GC-1, at the height of the Gran Canaria municipality of Agüimes, has left a total of seven people affected. The incident involved a collision between two cars, one of which ended up overturned on its side on the roadway, according to information from the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The alert to 1-1-2 was received at 11:18 hours. Resources from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, and Civil Guard agents were dispatched to the scene. The teams worked together to assist the injured and restore safety on the road, one of the main communication routes in the south of the island.

Five moderately injured and two lightly injured taken to medical centres

According to the initial assessment by the SUC, five of the affected individuals had moderate injuries at the time of assistance, with no apparent complications, and were transported by ambulance to Hospital ICOD Ciudad de Telde. The other two injured individuals, with light injuries, were taken to Centro Médico Arnao. In total, one medical ambulance and two basic life support ambulances were mobilised.

The firefighters, for their part, secured both vehicles involved — one of which was overturned on its side — and collaborated with the other emergency teams to facilitate rescue and assistance efforts. The Civil Guard was responsible for preparing the report to clarify the causes of the incident.

A Sunday with high traffic on the GC-1

The accident occurred on a stretch of the GC-1 southbound, a road that usually experiences heavy traffic during weekends, especially towards the beaches and tourist areas in the south of Gran Canaria. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or extremely serious injuries, although the rollover of the vehicle could have had more severe consequences.

From CECOES 1-1-2, they reminded the importance of maintaining a safe distance and respecting speed limits, especially on days with high vehicle influx. For drivers who regularly travel on the GC-1, this incident serves as a reminder that a moment's inattention at the wheel can lead to an accident with multiple casualties.

The authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision, while the injured are recovering well in the hospitals. More details about the condition of those affected are expected to be provided in the coming hours.
