A traffic accident on the GC-1 near Telde caused delays this morning. The van overturned and its cargo was scattered across the road, with no injuries reported.

A van overturned this Tuesday on the GC-1 motorway, near the Teldense neighbourhood of Las Huesas, heading towards Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The incident occurred around 6:00 AM, according to eyewitnesses, and resulted in no injuries, although the cargo being transported by the vehicle was spread across the road, necessitating cleaning and debris removal operations.

The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands confirmed that there were no injuries in the accident. Traffic Civil Guard officers, personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to manage the incident, assess the vehicle's condition, and ensure safety on the motorway.

The GC-1, a key route during peak hours

The GC-1 is one of the main arteries of Gran Canaria, so any incident during peak hours can lead to delays or slow traffic. In this case, the overturning forced heightened caution in the direction of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, especially for drivers heading to work or dropping off children at school.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the van was removed from the motorway shortly after 7:30 AM, once the main cleaning and safety operations were completed. From that point on, traffic gradually began to return to normal in the affected stretch.

The cargo, an added problem

The accident left part of the van's cargo scattered across the road, necessitating the intervention of the road maintenance service. Two units worked on cleaning the road and removing debris, a crucial task to prevent new risks for drivers passing through the area.

The Traffic Civil Guard is investigating the causes of the incident, although it appears to have been due to a distraction or a sudden manoeuvre. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed, and there were no personal injuries, something that local residents appreciate, as the GC-1 experiences heavy traffic from light and heavy vehicles daily.

For drivers who regularly use this stretch, the advice is clear: exercise extreme caution, especially during peak hours, and maintain a safe distance. Because, although there were no injuries this time, an overturn with loose cargo can always become more complicated than desired.
