Fire Stabilised at the Summit of Telde but the GC-130 Remains Closed

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has stabilised the fire declared at the summit of Telde, although the GC-130 road remains closed due to the risk of reactivation. The fire was deemed controlled at 19:15 after a large operation was mobilised.

The fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon at the summit of Telde, Gran Canaria, has been stabilised following an intense deployment of emergency resources. However, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has decided to keep the GC-130 road closed until the risk of reactivation completely disappears.

The alert about the fire was received at 17:08, which immediately activated an operation coordinated by the Cabildo and the Town Hall of Telde. Firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, personnel from the Telde and Arinaga parks, the Wildfire Operational Unit (UOFF), Environmental agents, Local Police, and the Gran Canaria Emergency Service participated in the extinguishing efforts, along with a significant deployment of aerial resources.

Thanks to the rapid intervention, the fire was stabilised by 19:15. Nevertheless, authorities warn that the emergency is not over. Weather conditions, with strong winds, remain unfavourable and pose the main risk factor for a possible reactivation of the flames.

For this reason, the GC-130 road will remain closed between kilometre point 11+900 and Telde. This measure aims to protect drivers and facilitate access for emergency vehicles still working in the area. The road will not reopen until the operation leaders confirm that there is no danger.

The Town Hall of Telde has also warned of possible sporadic power outages that could affect the neighbourhoods of Cazadores, La Breña, El Moreno, and La Solana. These incidents are related to the extinguishing efforts and the safety measures adopted.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria continues to monitor the area and recommends that residents pay attention to the authorities' instructions. It is expected that in the coming hours, an assessment of the terrain's evolution can be made and, if conditions allow, the road can be gradually reopened.

This fire adds to other incidents recorded in the midlands of Gran Canaria in recent days, which has led to the reinforcement of prevention measures. Authorities remind the importance of taking extreme precautions in natural environments, especially during windy periods and low humidity.
