The itinerant special waste collection service will be located next to the municipal Sports Centre from 08:00 to 14:00. You can dispose of everything from used oil to small appliances.
Residents of Teror will have a new opportunity this Tuesday to dispose of those household waste items that do not fit in the usual containers. The Mobile Clean Point of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria will be set up on José Hernández Jiménez Street, next to the municipal Sports Centre in the Los Llanos neighbourhood, from 08:00 to 14:00.
This service, which is part of the Gran Canaria Recicla campaign, allows citizens to deposit items such as used cooking oil, small electrical appliances, batteries, aerosols, paints, solvents, energy-saving bulbs, fluorescent lights, X-rays, textiles, footwear, CDs, DVDs, and ink cartridges, among others, free of charge and in a controlled manner.
An Initiative That Comes Twice a Month
The Mobile Clean Point visits Teror biweekly, alternating its location between three strategic points: the Town Centre, El Palmar, and Los Llanos. The coordination is managed by the Cleaning Department of the Teror City Council, led by councillor Irene Ortega, and the island's waste service.
Since its launch in 2022, the aim has been to bring special waste management closer to populated areas, avoiding trips to fixed clean points. For the residents of Los Llanos, having the service just a few metres from the sports centre saves time and provides extra convenience, especially for those without their own vehicle.
What Can Be Taken and What Cannot
The metal container has several approved compartments for each type of waste. It is allowed to deposit used cooking oil (always in well-sealed plastic bottles), small appliances, empty aerosols, mobile phone batteries or tools, empty camping gas cylinders, fire extinguishers, mercury thermometers, and contaminated paint or varnish containers.
What cannot be accepted are organic waste, rubble, tyres, bulky furniture, or large electronic devices (such as large televisions or washing machines), which must be taken to a fixed clean point. The service staff will guide users on where to deposit each item, so there is no excuse for not recycling properly.
The next appointment in Teror will be on April 8 in the Town Centre, next to the Bus Station, also in the morning. An opportunity for those who are behind to catch up on their list of pending waste. However, it is advisable to get there early: the service closes at two in the afternoon and, as they say, those who arrive late, do not recycle.
