The Gran Canaria municipality of Teror has brought a golden close to its Water Festival in honour of San Isidro Labrador with a pilgrimage offering, Traditions Day, and a solemn mass at the Basilica del Pino.
The last weekend of July concentrated the central events of Teror's Water Festival, which began on July 10 with the opening speech. The Gran Canaria town has experienced days of devotion, music, and tradition surrounding San Isidro Labrador, with a programme that has combined the religious with the popular.
Pilgrimage Offering and Night Fair
On Saturday, July 18, at 18:00, the neighbourhoods of Teror set off from Paseo González Díaz to Plaza de Sintes to participate in the Pilgrimage Offering. The streets were filled with colour, music, and typical products that the locals offered to the saint.
After the procession, the celebration continued with the Taifas Dance and the much-anticipated Water Fair, which refreshed attendees on a warm night. The day concluded with a fireworks display by the El Pilar pyrotechnics, lighting up the sky over Teror.
Traditions Day and Solemn Mass
On Sunday, July 19, the main day of the festival, the recreational area of Los Granadillos hosted the 'Traditions and Livestock Day' from 10:00 to 14:00. Attendees enjoyed activities such as threshing, donkey rides, shearing, a pulling contest, an exhibition of canary birds, and a tasting of pella de gofio.
At 12:00, the Basilica del Pino was the setting for the Solemn Mass in honour of San Isidro Labrador, which concluded the religious events of the Water Festival. The ceremony saw a large participation of faithful and local authorities.
Concert by Soloists of the Music Band
On Friday, July 17, the eve of the pilgrimage, a concert featuring soloists from the Teror Music Band took place. Gabriel Herrera played the bassoon, Rubén Naranjo played the trombone, Jorge Ojeda played the euphonium, Óscar Rodríguez played the saxophone, Emilio López played the trumpet, and Joel Reyes played percussion. The musical event was highly applauded by the audience.
Exhibition 'Teror, monument and life'
Those who are still eager for more can visit the exhibition 'Teror, monument and life', which remains open at the Teror Tourism Centre (Plaza del Pino) until August 7. The hours are Monday to Saturday, from 09:30 to 16:30, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays also from 09:30 to 20:00, with free entry. The exhibition offers a journey through the monumental heritage and daily life of the municipality.
With these events, Teror bids farewell to a festival that has managed to keep traditions alive and bring together locals and visitors around San Isidro Labrador. The Town Hall has positively assessed the participation and development of the events, which took place without notable incidents.
