The public transport company of the Cabildo of La Gomera, GuaguaGomera, has recorded over 183,000 users between January and June 2026, a 3.91% increase compared to the same period last year. Line 2, which connects Vallehermoso with San Sebastián, remains the most used.
The public road transport company of the Cabildo of La Gomera, GuaguaGomera, has closed the first half of 2026 with a balance of 183,000 passengers transported. In June alone, 25,993 people used one of the eight available lines, representing an increase of 978 travellers compared to the same month in 2025, a 3.91% rise.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, has valued this data as a demonstration of the relevance of public transport on the island. "They highlight the importance of public transport for the daily mobility of citizens and for ensuring connections between the different municipalities and population centres on the island," he noted. Curbelo added that the growth "is accompanied by ongoing efforts to improve resources, information, and service quality."
By lines, Line 2, which connects Vallehermoso with San Sebastián de La Gomera, is once again the most in demand, with 9,074 travellers in June. This figure represents an 8% increase compared to the 8,396 of the same month in 2025. Following it is Line 7, which connects San Sebastián with the Airport, with 2,956 passengers, a 30.05% increase from the 2,273 of the previous year.
Regarding payment methods, over 110,000 passengers opted for some form of transport pass during the first half of the year, accounting for more than 60% of total users. This figure reflects the significance of subsidised tickets in the daily mobility of the people of La Gomera.
The Cabildo has continued with the renewal of the GuaguaGomera fleet. In the last year, twelve new vehicles have been added, with a total investment of 3,188,665.48 euros. The fleet has increased from 18 to 24 units, including high-capacity buses, 35-seat vehicles, and minibuses adapted for people with reduced mobility. These new units have been distributed among different island lines, improving accessibility and comfort.
Additionally, a new GuaguaGomera mobile application has been launched, available for Android and iOS. The app allows users to calculate routes, check lines and schedules, locate nearby stops, and know estimated arrival times. It also provides information on passes, fares, and sales and recharge points, and allows users to save routes or stops as favourites. This tool aims to facilitate travel planning and improve access to service information.
The growth in users and improvements in the fleet and digital information reinforce the role of public transport in La Gomera, an island where connections between municipalities are essential for residents and visitors. The commitment to modernisation and fare subsidies seems to be paying off, with a sustained increase in travellers who rely on GuaguaGomera for their daily commutes.
