The San Sebastián de La Gomera City Council has formalised the purchase of 613 square metres next to the Ermita de San Pedro to expand the access road to Barranco de La Concepción. The operation, valued at 124,353 euros, unlocks a key project for the Industrial Zone.

The San Sebastián de La Gomera City Council finalised the acquisition of a plot of 613 square metres in the area of El Tejar, next to the Ermita de San Pedro, on Monday. The aim is to expand the road that provides access to Barranco de La Concepción and, consequently, to the municipality's Industrial Zone. The operation involved an investment of 124,353.18 euros.

Angélica Padilla, the town's mayor, described the agreement as a “great success” for the government team. She explained that the negotiation was particularly complex due to the large number of owners and heirs involved in the property. “It is undoubtedly a great pride to have successfully completed the purchase,” she stated.

Road safety and heavy traffic

The current road has a narrow curve with poor visibility, posing a risk for vehicles, especially heavy ones that travel daily to the Industrial Zone. The expansion aims to eliminate this black spot and improve the safety of drivers, workers, and clients in the area.

Padilla highlighted that the action will also increase parking spaces in the vicinity, a recurring problem for users of the industrial estate. “It will facilitate the transit of vehicles under better conditions and with greater guarantees,” the mayor pointed out.

A long-awaited project

The acquisition of the land unlocks a project that had been stalled for years due to the lack of agreement with the owners. The mayor thanked the sellers for their willingness to reach an understanding. “It has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the heirs,” she emphasised.

Now, the City Council will be able to draft the construction project and tender the road expansion. Work is expected to begin in the coming months, once the administrative procedures are completed. The total investment for the project has not yet been detailed, but the land purchase was the essential first step.

For the residents of San Sebastián de La Gomera, this action represents a direct improvement in their daily lives: less congestion, more safety, and smoother access to a key area for the local economy. The Industrial Zone houses dozens of companies and generates hundreds of jobs.
