The Columbian island hosts a national ranking badminton tournament for the first time, at N7 level, with the participation of six players from Auria Badminton Club.

Badminton does not rest even in summer. This weekend, six players from Auria Badminton Club have travelled to La Gomera to participate in the TOP TTR San Sebastián de La Gomera, a tournament that is being held for the first time on the Columbian island and which counts towards the national ranking.

The event, at N7 level, includes under-13, under-19, and senior categories. The representatives from the Lanzarote club are seeded in several of them, placing them among the favourites.

Six players and a coach

The Auria Badminton Club delegation consists of Vera García, Álvaro Guadalupe, Hugo de la Paz Paradas, Aitami Fernández, Patricia Vargas, and Adrián Carabali. They are accompanied by coach Miguel Barbado.

In the under-13 category, Vera García and Álvaro Guadalupe are the number one seeds, while Hugo de la Paz and Aitami Fernández also compete in that same category. In under-19, Patricia Vargas and Adrián Carabali are the representatives, with Carabali being the number one seed.

Doubs and rivals

The tournament is contested in doubles format. In under-13, Vera García and Álvaro Guadalupe form a pair in mixed doubles. In men's doubles, Hugo de la Paz plays with Lukas Santos (CB Tiguaneje) and Aitami Fernández with Manuel Cabrera (Lanzarote Raqueta Club).

In under-19, Patricia Vargas competes in mixed doubles alongside Aitor José Medina (CB Tiguaneje) and Adrián Carabali in men's doubles with Marcos Mariscal (Club Deportivo Pajaritos).

The delegation arrived on Friday to the island and took advantage of the afternoon to do a small sightseeing tour. The return is scheduled for Sunday morning, arriving at César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote at 15:20.

For badminton fans in Lanzarote, this participation represents an opportunity to see their players compete at a national level in a tournament that also debuts its venue in La Gomera. The club demonstrates that the youth academy continues to bear fruit and that summer is no excuse to stop.
