Dutch golfer Lars Keunen has been crowned champion of the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera 2026 at Tecina Golf. His final round of 65 strokes (-6) secured him the title with a total of -17.
Dutchman Lars Keunen claimed the title of the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera 2026 after signing off with a final round of 65 strokes, six under par. The player completed the tournament with a total of -17, finishing four strokes ahead of his pursuers at Tecina Golf in San Sebastián de La Gomera.
A tight leaderboard that demanded the best from Keunen
Keunen entered the final day as the leader, but with around twenty players separated by just four strokes. The close competition forced the Dutchman to maintain a high level from the very first hole. Despite a modest start, he managed to stay calm and seize the opportunities.
“I started the day quite relaxed, having breakfast with incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean from the hotel,” confessed the champion. “I had read that about 20 players were separated by only four strokes, so I knew I had to make a low round.”
“The start was okay, although not spectacular. I made a three-putt for par on hole 3, but since I had started similarly the first two days, I didn’t pay too much attention to it. I knew I still had room to recover.”
Keunen avoided checking the scores for most of the round, focusing on his own game. “I tried not to look too much at the live scoring at the beginning. Around hole 12, I saw how the leaderboard looked and checked that I had a one-stroke lead, although there were still several birdie opportunities ahead,” he explained.
Authoritative finish with three birdies in the last five holes
The Dutchman capped off his performance with three birdies in the last five holes, securing the title with authority. “In the end, I was quite relaxed. Having my girlfriend here has been a great support. Sometimes I can be very demanding of myself, and she helped me maintain a positive attitude throughout the week,” he noted.
The best national performance came from Spanish player Eduard Rousaud, who shared second place with -13 after rounds of 69, 64, and 67 strokes. Rousaud highlighted his mental work: “I started more relaxed than I thought and did a very good mental job. I hadn’t felt like I had the game to compete for tournaments for a while, and now I feel like I do again.”
“I’m very proud of how I finished. I reacted very well after the bogeys on 15 and 16. On 17, I made a great putt, and on 18, I told myself I could do it. In the end, I got my reward. Beyond the result, I’m taking away the feelings because I believe I’m on a very good path.”
Rousaud tied with Frenchman Paul Margolis, Italian Mattia Comotti, and Marco Florioli. Also shining was Víctor García Broto, seventh with -12, while Alberto Domínguez, José Antonio Sintes, and Alfonso Buendía finished tied for thirteenth place with -10.
José Antonio Sintes, the best Canarian at home
Gran Canarian José Antonio Sintes was the best-ranked Canarian player, finishing with -10. Sintes competed again in a tournament counting towards the World Amateur Ranking and responded with a solid performance in front of the local crowd. His second round of 64 strokes (-7) was one of the best scores of the championship and kept him among the contenders all week.
For the island golfer, the tournament was an opportunity to measure himself against top-level players in his homeland. “It’s a pride to play at home and feel the support of the fans,” he declared after the competition. Sintes is thus becoming a name to watch on the Alps Tour, a circuit that gains more followers in the Canary Islands every year.
The 2026 edition of the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera once again provided a great sporting spectacle at Tecina Golf, bringing together some of the most prominent players on the Alps Tour. The tournament is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Insular Council of La Gomera, the Canary Golf Federation, the Alps Tour, and Kyocera, and is organised by JGolf.
For golf fans in La Gomera, the tournament has not only been a top-level sporting event but also a tourist showcase. The views of the ocean from the Tecina Golf course, combined with the high competitive level, make the Fred. Olsen Alps an event that attracts visitors from all over Europe. The next Alps Tour event in the Canary Islands will be followed with anticipation, especially after Keunen's performance and the promising emergence of local talents like Sintes.
