Airam Concepción's mother, who disappeared in Los Cancajos on February 16, has made a new appeal to the public for help in his search, after five months without news.
The filmmaker Mercedes Afonso, mother of Airam Concepción, has once again requested public assistance to locate her son, who disappeared in the area of Los Cancajos, in Breña Baja, on February 16. In an emotional post on her Facebook profile, the family insists that they do not lose hope and that public collaboration is key to finding his whereabouts.
A trail of sightings extending to June
According to Afonso, since the disappearance they have followed a trail of possible sightings on the island of La Palma. The most compelling, according to the mother, occurred on May 13, when a person who has known Airam since childhood claimed to have seen him and confirmed his tattoo. In that sighting, it was noted that the young man had longer beard and hair, something consistent with the passage of months. Additionally, the family is aware of other possible sightings up to June 1.
Autism and high abilities: keys to understanding his flight
The mother explained that Airam's condition of autism and high abilities may explain what she calls an "autistic flight". "His mind can take a long time to calm down without family or medical help, and he may even have mental gaps and not remember how to get home," she pointed out. Afonso wanted to share this hypothesis based on her deep knowledge of her son, whom she describes as a person with a "wonderful, creative, intelligent, resilient mind, but also rigid and at times obsessive."
The family maintains hope, an attitude that, according to the mother, "implies that we act and work for it, which is why we continue searching, asking, finding." In her message, she asks anyone who believes they see Airam to take a photo and immediately call the designated phone numbers.
For the residents of Breña Baja and the rest of the island, Airam's disappearance has been a harsh blow. The family reminds that any clue, no matter how small, can be crucial. Authorities are keeping the investigation active, but public collaboration remains the main resource to find the young man.
The mother concludes her appeal with a plea: "I do not ask anyone to believe us, but I would like to ask, please, that if anyone sees him, they let us know." Meanwhile, the search continues, and the family does not give up.
