The fire, which broke out shortly after 22:46 on Coronel Bens street, mobilised several fire crews. The house was occasionally used by homeless individuals.
A house on Coronel Bens street, in the heart of Arrecife, was completely engulfed in flames during the night on Monday. The fire, which broke out just after half past ten, kept residents on edge for hours. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
The alert was received by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 at 22:46. Several units from the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Security and Emergency Consortium were dispatched to the scene, where they found the fire fully developed upon arrival.
A property used by homeless individuals
According to emergency services, the house was occasionally used by homeless individuals. At the time of the fire, there was no one inside, which prevented a tragedy. Firefighters used water and foam to extinguish the flames, given the high load of combustible materials accumulated.
The intensity of the fire was such that the extinguishing efforts lasted several hours. Once controlled, the teams carried out finishing work, debris removal, and cooling to prevent the flames from reigniting. They also inspected the property for hot spots.
Joint operation with Local and National Police
The operation involved collaboration with agents from the Local Police of Arrecife and the National Police Corps, who secured the safety perimeter while firefighters worked. Residents of the area were able to return to their homes after midnight, once any risk of spread was ruled out.
This incident highlights the importance of keeping unoccupied properties in safe conditions. For the residents of Arrecife, the swift intervention of emergency services prevented what could have been a disaster. The City Council has announced that it will assess the damages and coordinate the cleaning of the area in the coming days.
