The capital of Lanzarote is preparing to welcome 224 athletes from 13 countries at the Lanzarote Summer Challenge 2026, the largest CrossFit tournament in the country, from July 11 to 12.
The Islote de la Fermina, El Reducto Beach, and the Marina Lanzarote Sports Port will be the venues for a weekend of sweat, perseverance, and spectacle. Arrecife hosts this weekend what is already the most important event in national CrossFit: the Lanzarote Summer Challenge 2026.
224 elite athletes from around the world
The competition will bring together 224 athletes, selected from over 800 applicants from different parts of the world. Over two intense days, they will measure their strength, endurance, speed, and technical ability.
This year's championship reaches its greatest international dimension with the participation of athletes from Finland, Argentina, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, France, Italy, Norway, Ireland, Antigua and Barbuda, Lithuania, Croatia, Portugal, and Japan. Additionally, this will be the first edition with representation from several Latin American countries.
Among the most notable names are internationally renowned athletes such as Victoria Reyes, Helena Carratalá, Fabi Beneito, and Bryan Hernández, alongside some of the best national athletes like Silvia García, Martín Cuervo, Laura Plaza, Carmen Pericet, Alejandro de la Guardia, and Rita García.
Mixed teams and an aquatic challenge
The Lanzarote Summer Challenge 2026 introduces significant innovations. For the first time, all categories —RX, Intermediate, Scale, and Master— will be contested exclusively in mixed teams, making it the first Spanish CrossFit competition to equal the number of male and female participants.
The organisation has also designed new challenges that will test the athletes. Among them is a new aquatic challenge, as well as new materials and exercises specifically created for this edition.
Another major innovation will be the monitoring of the competition. Attendees will be able to see the progress of the championship in real-time thanks to a mobile app and a giant screen, from which both the events and exercise repetitions will be broadcast live along with the standings.
Record prizes and guaranteed atmosphere
The 2026 edition will distribute nearly 5,000 euros in prizes, the largest prize pool in the tournament's history and one of the few national CrossFit competitions offering such a high amount. The public will be able to enjoy the event for free at all three venues, with morning and afternoon schedules.
For the residents of Arrecife and visitors, the Summer Challenge is an opportunity to see some of the best athletes in the world in action, in a privileged setting by the sea. The events will start on Saturday 11 at 9:00 and will continue until Sunday 12 at 18:00.
It is a pride that Arrecife is the epicentre of national CrossFit. This event puts Lanzarote on the international sports map and generates a very positive economic and tourist impact for the island, say sources from the organisation.
With a calendar that is already fixed in the Lanzarote summer, the Lanzarote Summer Challenge has earned its place as an essential event for fitness enthusiasts. And, hey, if you're not one to lift weights, you can always cheer from the sands of El Reducto while enjoying a drink. After all, the spectacle is guaranteed.
