The Venezuelans United by Hand Association in Lanzarote has coordinated the shipment of food, medicine, clothing, and drinking water to the areas affected by the double earthquake in Venezuela. Four trucks have already departed this Wednesday from their headquarters in Arrecife.
The Sociocultural and Sports Association Venezuelans United by Hand in Lanzarote began organizing and preparing all the humanitarian aid received after the double earthquake that shook Venezuela this Wednesday. More than twenty volunteers gathered at the headquarters on Bolivia Street, number 9, in Arrecife, to package and load the products donated by the island's residents.
Four trucks loaded with solidarity
According to the association, by 10:30 am on Wednesday, four trucks had already left for Venezuela. However, there is still much material to classify and pack. "We didn't expect so much help, we are very happy and grateful," said a spokesperson for the entity.
The collection of donations took place on July 2 and 3 at the same headquarters, and the response from the citizens of Lanzarote has been described as "wonderful" by the organizers. The products include non-perishable food, medicine, clothing, and drinking water, essential goods for the thousands of people affected by the earthquakes.
A gesture that crosses the Atlantic
The association has expressed its emotion: "These have been days in which we have seen that solidarity transforms into a hug for those who, in a matter of seconds, saw their lives change forever." The initiative, born from the Venezuelan community in Lanzarote, has managed to mobilize dozens of local people and businesses that have contributed everything from food to volunteers for logistical tasks.
For residents on the island who wish to continue contributing, the association reminds that monetary donations can still be made through their bank accounts, published on their social media. "Every little bit helps," they insist.
The double earthquake, which occurred at the end of June, has left thousands of victims in several regions of Venezuela, and international aid is arriving gradually. From Lanzarote, this shipment represents direct support for the most affected communities.
Next steps
The association plans to organize new shipments in the coming weeks, depending on the donations they continue to receive. Meanwhile, volunteers continue to work at the headquarters to prepare the remaining material. "The solidarity of Lanzarote knows no bounds," they conclude.
