The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has approved the bases for a new line of grants, endowed with €1.2 million, to modernise road transport on the island.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has given the green light to the regulatory bases of a new line of grants aimed at modernising the road transport sector on the island. The aid, which will be granted on a competitive basis, is directed at companies, professionals, associations, and entities in the sector. The financial allocation amounts to €1.2 million, as confirmed by the island institution.
Commitment to digitalisation and sustainability
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that these bases provide, for the first time, the Transport area with a stable instrument to support projects that contribute to modernising an essential sector for the island's economy. “We want to support transport professionals and entities in their adaptation to new technological, environmental, and mobility challenges,” he stated.
The grants align with the Insular Transport and Sustainable Mobility Plan of Lanzarote 2024-2031, which aims for objectives such as reducing emissions, improving transport efficiency, digitalising the sector, and promoting accessibility. The initiative also seeks to encourage active and safe mobility on the island.
Subsidisable lines of action
The councillor for Transport and Mobility, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, explained that the bases are broad and flexible to respond to the real needs of the sector. Subsidisable actions include the organisation and delivery of training actions for the professionalisation of the sector, digitalisation and technological modernisation projects, investments in improving infrastructure, facilities, and equipment, as well as other initiatives for more sustainable, safe, and inclusive mobility.
“We have designed bases that consider technological renewal, improvement of facilities, training of professionals, and actions that allow for a more efficient service adapted to the current demands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa,” Jiménez detailed.
