Christian Morales, Coral Silva, Gabriela Rodríguez, Fabio Martín, Alexia Caraballo, Araceli Bravo and Elieser Betancort, all from the municipality of Yaiza, delivered a memorable concert in the Plaza del Carmen.
On Friday night, the Plaza del Carmen in Playa Blanca resonated with the voices of seven local talents. Christian Morales, Coral Silva, Gabriela Rodríguez, Fabio Martín, Alexia Caraballo, Araceli Bravo and Elieser Betancort, accompanied by a band of four musicians led by Fran Mauri, had the audience singing and applauding non-stop.
A repertoire that captivated the square
Each soloist performed two songs from the universal songbook, chosen at their discretion. The grand finale was the Guantanamera, sung by all the artists and the audience, who enthusiastically joined in. The gala, presented by Amaira Cedrés and Juan Quintana, maintained a lively pace thanks to the transitions from the Beatrice Senent Dance School.
Before each performance, the singers shared in a video their connection to Playa Blanca. Some began their careers in the village's children's galas or in folklore, and today they cultivate various genres. The Councillor for Celebrations of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, highlighted that “our soloists have performed on stages in the Canary Islands and beyond, invited by regional and national television programmes.”
Yaiza talent with national projection
Several of these artists have participated in competitions on national networks, where they have demonstrated their vocal quality. Having them together in Playa Blanca, according to Medina, has been “a true luxury.” The Yaiza Town Hall, presided over by Óscar Noda, expressed gratitude for the singers' commitment to the municipality.
The gala is part of the Carmen festivities, which each year bring together locals and visitors in the coastal area. For attendees, it was an opportunity to see voices that usually shine separately on the same stage. The audience's response was so warm that many requested an encore, although there is currently no confirmed date for a repeat performance.
The event demonstrates that Yaiza continues to be a breeding ground for musical talent. Those who missed the event can follow these artists on their social media; they are sure to sing at home again soon, as art always finds a place in Playa Blanca.
