The CajaCanarias Foundation's Technical Campus kicks off in Lanzarote with 40 young finalists from the Fajín Tournament. For two weeks, the children will train with figures like Mamadou Cámara.
A group of forty boys and girls from all the Canary Islands are enjoying a technical training camp for Lucha Canaria in Lanzarote, organised by the CajaCanarias Foundation, starting this Wednesday. The participants, finalists of the Fajín Tournament, live and train with some of the best wrestlers in the traditional sport.
A Reward for a Season of Effort
The camp, held in the municipality of Yaiza, is divided into two sessions. From July 7 to 13, the prebenjamín and benjamín categories will attend; from July 21 to 27, it will be the turn of alevines and infantiles. The young athletes have arrived after competing throughout the year in the qualifying rounds of the Fajín Tournament, which takes place between October and November on each island.
Fernando Sánchez, Communication Director of the CajaCanarias Foundation, explained that "this is a superior technical training camp in which the finalists of our Fajín Tournament participate." He also highlighted that "many of these children could become the main figures of Lucha Canaria in a few years."
Training with Idols of the Traditional Sport
The young wrestlers have the opportunity to train alongside figures such as Puntal A Mamadou Cámara, who was present at the opening event. For them, according to Sánchez, "it’s like seeing Cristiano or Messi in football. They will be able to train with some of the best wrestlers in the Canary Islands, who are their idols and the level they aspire to reach one day."
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, emphasised the institutional collaboration: "From the moment the possibility of holding this camp in Lanzarote was proposed, in collaboration with the Canary Islands Wrestling Federation and the CajaCanarias Foundation, we opened our doors and made every effort to make it a reality."
Lanzarote, Epicentre of Wrestling Talent
The event has not only a sporting component but also a cultural one. All the islands and different clubs are represented, and Lanzarote is hosting this technical training camp for the first time, establishing itself as a key point for the promotion of Lucha Canaria. The residents of Yaiza and the rest of the island will be able to visit the facilities to watch the training sessions and get to know the future stars of this sport up close.
The camp will conclude with a public exhibition on the last day of each session, where the participants will showcase what they have learned. For fans, it is a unique opportunity to see in action those who will be the stars of tomorrow.
