The City Council of Santa Cruz de La Palma has launched ten selection processes to fill positions such as driver, caretaker, locksmith, seamstress, gardener, librarian, and local police officer, among others. The deadline for submitting applications for several of these positions ends on July 22.

The City Council of Santa Cruz de La Palma has accelerated the generational change of its municipal workforce. In recent weeks, it has incorporated three new General Administration Technicians (TAG) as career civil servants and is keeping open or about to open a dozen selection processes to cover positions from driver to local police officer.

The Councillor for Human Resources, Juan Guerra, explained that the planning aims to “reduce temporality and ensure coverage of essential positions”. The Mayor, Asier Antona, frames the move within a strategy to “strengthen the municipal administration with stable and qualified personnel” and improve service to residents.

Three technicians for Contracting and Taxes

The three TAG have taken office this week after passing a six-month selection process. They will occupy positions in the areas of Contracting and Tax Management, two key components of the municipal machinery: the first handles everything from construction to purchases for the City Council, and the second manages the taxes and fees paid by each resident.

They join seven other positions filled in recent months: two Technical Architects, one Industrial Technical Engineer, one Local Police Officer, and three Local Police Agents. In total, the City Council has already filled ten positions this year.

Deadline open until July 22

The City Council is keeping open, until July 22, the deadline for submitting applications for a block of positions through free competitive examination: two drivers, three caretakers, two locksmiths, and one seamstress. The bases can be consulted on the municipal electronic headquarters.

For residents seeking stable employment in local administration, this is an opportunity that does not come around every day. The positions of caretaker and locksmith, for example, are profiles that are rarely offered simultaneously.

What’s coming: gardener, library, and the 2025 OPE

In the coming days, as soon as they are published in the Official State Bulletin, the calls for one Second Official Gardener and another Library Promoter position will be opened. This is in addition to processes already initiated for seven administrative assistant positions, two cleaners, and three administrative positions through internal promotion, reserved for personnel already working in the City Council.

The recently approved Public Employment Offer for 2025 adds another six positions for open access: administrative assistant, social graduate, first-class driver, and three local police agents. All of this constitutes the most intense workforce movement the City Council has experienced in recent years.

“We are making a significant effort to rejuvenate the workforce, cover structural vacancies, and offer job stability,” said Juan Guerra.

For the residents of Santa Cruz de La Palma, this avalanche of processes means more public employment opportunities and, in the medium term, a more agile administration with fewer temporary positions. Those interested in the positions with a deadline until July 22 better hurry: time is running out.
