Candelaria's Plaza de los Pescadores will host the fourth edition of the Patron of the Canary Islands Craft Fair from July 31 to August 2, featuring 20 artisans from 13 disciplines.
The town of Candelaria in Tenerife is preparing to welcome a new edition of the Patron of the Canary Islands Craft Fair, which this year celebrates its fourth event. The fair, organised by the Tenerife Council through the Insular Craft Company and the Candelaria Town Hall, will take place from July 31 to August 2 in the Plaza de los Pescadores.
A total of 20 artisans from various disciplines will showcase their creations in a space that will feature 21 equipped individual tents. The organisers have arranged for information services, maintenance, and card payment options to enhance the visitor experience.
During the presentation held in the noble hall of the Tenerife Council, the insular councillor for Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, highlighted that this fair "not only promotes the growth of the craft sector, but also safeguards our heritage and projects it into the coming years." Medina emphasised that each displayed piece "contains a fragment of our Canary essence, forged through generations."
Meanwhile, the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, noted that "the care, promotion, and preservation of our identity are one of the pillars of Candelaria's cultural policies." Brito added that the fair "has established itself as a benchmark and an unmissable event for both locals and visitors."
The municipal leader explained that this event marks the transition between the patronal festivities of Santa Ana and El Carmen and the celebrations in honour of the Patroness of the Canary Islands, reinforcing the link between cultural expressions and local heritage. "In such a globalised world with increasingly impersonal commerce, craftsmanship and traditional trades continue to survive to ground us in the world, providing personality, mark, identity, quality, and creativity," Brito stated.
In this edition, visitors will be able to admire creations from 13 artisan modalities: Almazuelas, Carpentry, Candle-making, Fabric Decoration, Enamels, Leatherwork, Modelling, Dressmaking, Doll-making, Glasswork, Lace-making, and Basketry. The diversity of techniques promises a journey through the most deeply rooted traditions of Canarian craftsmanship.
The mayor invited locals and tourists to come to the Plaza de los Pescadores to enjoy this encounter with traditions. The fair has become an essential annual event for those wishing to learn about and acquire unique pieces that reflect the talent and artisanal tradition of Tenerife.
The opening hours for the public will be from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00 during the three days. Admission is free, and it is recommended to arrive early to enjoy all the live demonstrations that the artisans will perform.
