A 54-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a truck on the TF-42 in Garachico. The man was transported in critical condition to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
A serious traffic accident occurred this Friday, resulting in two individuals with severe injuries in the Tenerife municipality of Garachico. The two occupants of a motorcycle collided with a truck on the TF-42 road, at the height of kilometre 13, and required urgent assistance from medical services.
The incident happened around 12:17 hours when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting a collision between a truck and a motorcycle, with two injured individuals needing immediate medical attention. Emergency resources activated by 112 were dispatched to the scene.
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) mobilised a sanitised ambulance and a basic life support ambulance, which joined the crew of a non-urgent medical transport ambulance passing through the area and assisted in the initial care. The medical staff assessed and stabilised the two injured individuals before their transfer.
The man, aged 54, suffered serious polytrauma and was evacuated in critical condition in a SUC ambulance to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias in La Laguna. The woman, aged 32, sustained a serious injury to a lower limb and was transported in another ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Civil Guard is responsible for preparing the report to clarify the causes of the incident, while the Local Police assisted other units in regulating traffic and ensuring safety in the area. Meanwhile, the staff from the Road Conservation Service of the Cabildo of Tenerife carried out cleaning work on the roadway, which was affected by the accident.
The section of the TF-42 where the incident occurred is a mountain road with curves and slopes, commonly used for the transit of heavy and light vehicles. This is not the first time accidents have been recorded at this point, although authorities have not specified whether the truck or the motorcycle may have committed any infractions. The investigation remains open.
Residents of Garachico and drivers passing through the area have expressed their concern about the accident rate on this road, especially during the summer months when the flow of tourists and vehicles increases. The Garachico Town Hall has reminded the importance of exercising caution while driving and adhering to speed limits.
