The Government Board of Telde has approved the tender for the comprehensive renovation of the municipal football fields of La Herradura and Las Huesas, with a total budget exceeding 1.1 million euros. The Cabildo of Gran Canaria finances 88.5% of the investment.
The Town Hall of Telde has given the green light to the contracting file for the comprehensive renovation of the football fields of La Herradura and Las Huesas, two key facilities for sports practice in the municipality. The total investment amounts to 1,117,235.70 euros, according to the agreement adopted by the Local Government Board, chaired by Mayor Juan Antonio Peña.
The project has been divided into two independent lots. The La Herradura field will have a budget of 569,994.66 euros, while Las Huesas will receive 547,241.04 euros. The majority of the funds come from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, which contributes 989,287 euros through the Additional Investment Plan for the Municipalities of Gran Canaria 2024 (PAI 2024), managed by the Department of Institutional Cooperation and International Solidarity led by Carmelo Ramírez.
The La Herradura field will be fully financed by the Cabildo's grant, while in Las Huesas, the island institution contributes 419,292.34 euros (76.62% of the budget) and the Town Hall covers the remaining 127,948.70 euros with its own funds. In total, the local corporation allocates 127,948.70 euros, equivalent to 23.38% of the cost of Las Huesas.
The Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, thanked the involvement of the Cabildo, its president Antonio Morales, and the councillor Carmelo Ramírez. "We are facing an investment of over 1.1 million euros that represents a definitive step to renew two fundamental facilities for sports in Telde," Peña stated. "Collaboration between administrations allows us to undertake works that, due to their economic volume, would be very difficult to face solely with municipal resources."
The mayor highlighted that "the Cabildo contributes nearly 990,000 euros and the Town Hall also fulfills its responsibility, allocating almost 128,000 euros of its own funds to complete the work at Las Huesas." He also emphasized that "this agreement demonstrates that when institutions work in a coordinated manner, the results reach the neighbourhoods, clubs, and families directly."
The works include the removal and replacement of the artificial grass, which shows significant deterioration due to continuous use and the passage of time. The irrigation systems will also be renewed, including the installation of new elements and the replacement of pumping equipment. The project includes improvements to goals, benches, and flags, as well as other actions to enhance the safety and sports performance of the facilities.
At the Antonio Guerra Guerrita field in La Herradura, the intervention will cover an approximate area of 6,720 square meters, where there is a standard football 11 field and two cross fields for football 8. The project responds to the progressive wear of the grass and the accumulated deficiencies in the irrigation system over the past few years.
Both fields experience high usage throughout the season by clubs, sports schools, and teams of different categories. The renovation will allow for safer and more modern playing fields, adapted to the needs of athletes and entities in the municipality.
The councillor for Physical Activity and Sports, Cristhian Santana, noted that the renovation "will respond to a historical demand from the clubs and users of La Herradura and Las Huesas." Companies interested in carrying out the work will have a period of 20 calendar days to submit their bids, once the announcement is published on the Contractor Profile and on the Public Sector Contracting Platform.
The Cabildo's funding is channelled through the PAI 2024, a program endowed with a total of 69 million euros for investments in the 21 municipalities of Gran Canaria. The mayor praised the work of the municipal departments of Sports, Contracting, Intervention, and the technical areas involved in completing a complex file and jointly putting the two fields out to tender.
After evaluating the proposals, awarding the contract, and formalizing it, the selected companies will be able to begin work within the deadlines established in the projects and in the specifications. The action will represent a substantial improvement for the clubs and residents of both neighbourhoods, who have been waiting for this renovation for years.
