The municipality of Guía de Gran Canaria hosts this weekend the Kanarii Festival and the XXXIII National Folklore Festival of Gran Canaria, with free activities at the Casa de la Cultura, Plaza de Guía, and Plaza Grande.
Guía de Gran Canaria is preparing for an intense cultural weekend as part of the La Virgen de Guía 2026 festivities. The programme kicks off on Saturday, August 1, with the Kanarii Festival, an event that combines literature, conversation, and music, and continues on Sunday with the start of the XXXIII National Folklore Festival of Gran Canaria.
The Kanarii Festival will begin at 11:00 hours at the Casa de la Cultura with the activity 'Guía reads the Atlantic. Round-trip readings with Néstor Álamo'. This is a round table featuring Aránzazu Almeida, Sergio Aguiar, and Julián Melián, who will discuss the literary and cultural relationships between both shores of the Atlantic. The discussion will focus on figures such as Eugenio Suárez-Galbán, Domingo Rivero, and Rafael Bento y Travieso, known as the poet Bento.
In the evening, at 21:00 hours, Plaza de Guía will host a musical gathering with performances by Vocal Vidas, Nuevos Aires, and Kanarii. The evening will bring together different styles and voices in a concert open to the public, as reported by the Guía de Gran Canaria City Council.
On Sunday, August 2, folklore will take over with the first day of the XXXIII National Folklore Festival of Gran Canaria. At 11:30 hours, the participating groups will be welcomed at the Teatro Hespérides. Subsequently, at 12:45 hours, the traditional raising of the flags of the participating communities will take place at the front of the church.
From 13:00 hours, Plaza Grande will be the stage for folkloric performances and a tasting of typical products. The Agrupación Músico-Cultural Timbayba from Tinajo, Lanzarote, will participate in this day. The festival will continue on Tuesday, August 4, at 21:00 hours, also in Plaza Grande, with performances by the Folklore Group La Serrana from Piornal (Cáceres), the Folkloric Group San Cristóbal (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), and the Cultural and Recreational Association Estrella y Guía.
The Guía de Gran Canaria City Council has encouraged residents, visitors, and participants in the festivities to enjoy this programme, which combines literature, music, and popular traditions in various cultural spaces of the municipality. All activities are free to access.
The celebration of La Virgen de Guía 2026 thus consolidates itself as an event that combines cultural offerings with folklore, attracting both residents and tourists. With the Kanarii Festival, the municipality aims to enhance literary and musical dialogue, while the National Folklore Festival champions the traditional roots of the various participating communities.
