The City Council of La Laguna and the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA) have signed the agreement for a new consumer voucher campaign, which will mobilise €1.4 million. Each €20 voucher will cost citizens €10.
The City Council of La Laguna has renewed its alliance with the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA) to launch a new edition of the Vouchers for Promoting Local Commerce, an initiative that will inject €1.4 million into the commercial fabric of the municipality. The agreement was signed this Wednesday by the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the president of FAUCA, Abbas Moujir, at an event also attended by the acting councillor for Commerce, Fran Hernández, and the president of La Laguna Commercial Zone, Iván Pérez.
The campaign, which has already established itself as one of the council's flagship measures, will allow citizens to purchase €20 vouchers for just €10, with the City Council covering half of the cost. A total of 70,000 vouchers will be put into circulation, and each person will be able to buy a maximum of five, linked to their ID or passport to ensure equitable distribution.
“The Promotion Vouchers have become one of the municipal policies with the greatest impact to support our economic fabric,” highlighted the mayor during the signing. “They not only boost sales for hundreds of establishments but also help families and strengthen a city model that supports local commerce, which generates employment and life in our towns and neighbourhoods.”
The councillor for Commerce, Fran Hernández, emphasised that this new edition consolidates the initiative in the local commercial calendar and that the main novelty is the inclusion of tattoo studios among the participating businesses, thus broadening the range of benefited activities. “We are talking about a campaign that will mobilise €1.4 million and benefits both commerce and citizens,” he stated.
For his part, Abbas Moujir, president of FAUCA, thanked the City Council for its trust and pointed out that “this campaign is already a reference in the Canary Islands due to the volume of resources it mobilises and its direct impact on local commerce.” The federation will be responsible for the technical management, from the adhesion of establishments to the development of the initiative.
The maximum number of vouchers that each establishment can redeem will depend on the total number of businesses that join, a figure that will be known once the registration period closes. The City Council will then announce the date for the vouchers to be put into circulation, which can be purchased at the participating shops.
With this new edition, the council reaffirms its commitment to local commerce as an economic and social engine. The campaign not only encourages responsible consumption but also helps maintain activity in the neighbourhoods and towns of the municipality, preventing commercial depopulation. The residents of La Laguna will benefit from direct discounts on their purchases, providing relief for family finances in a context of inflation.
The initiative, which is repeated periodically, has proven to be a success in previous editions, with high participation from both merchants and consumers. It is expected that this time the adhesion figures will be exceeded, thanks to the expansion of categories and the consolidation of the management system.
