The Municipal Office of Consumer Information of La Laguna will start next week an itinerant campaign in coastal and commercial areas to advise on rights regarding travel, online shopping and sales.

The Municipal Office of Consumer Information (OMIC) of the La Laguna City Council will launch next week an informative summer campaign under the slogan ‘Don’t let the heat make you lose your head!’. The municipal service will take to the streets to offer direct advice and distribute informative material on responsible consumption, travel, online shopping and rights during sales.

The initiative will be carried out through information tents in different locations across the municipality. The schedule kicks off on July 25 and 26 in Bajamar, continues on July 27 and 28 in Punta del Hidalgo, on July 29 in La Cuesta, and concludes on July 30 in Taco. The OMIC aims to bring information closer to residents and visitors in some of the busiest areas during the summer season.

The councillor in charge of the OMIC, Sergio Eiroa, highlighted that “we want the information to reach citizens directly, where they enjoy their leisure time and make a significant part of their purchases or book their holidays. A well-informed consumer is a more protected person against fraud, breaches or abusive practices.”

Through the leaflet prepared for this campaign, the OMIC reminds the importance of booking trips only with trusted companies, always checking the conditions of reservations, ensuring that websites are secure before making purchases or payments, and keeping all documentation related to bookings.

Recommendations are also provided regarding the advisability of taking out appropriate travel insurance, and it is noted that in air transport, European regulations recognise specific rights for passengers in the event of delays, cancellations or denied boarding.

The campaign dedicates a prominent space to summer sales. The OMIC reminds that discounted products maintain the same guarantees as the rest of the year, that establishments must clearly inform about prices, and that defective items cannot be sold as discounts, but as properly identified clearance items.

In this regard, Eiroa stated that “sales and holidays should not become a source of conflicts or complaints due to lack of information. Our goal is for consumers to know their rights before buying or contracting any service and to know how to act if a problem arises.”

In addition to distributing informative material, OMIC staff will resolve doubts and offer personalised advice to all those who approach the tents during the campaign.

“The OMIC works year-round to protect the rights of consumers, but in summer we intensify that effort because purchases, travel and service contracts increase. We want citizens to enjoy with peace of mind, knowing they have a nearby public service to advise them when needed,” concluded the councillor.

Interested individuals can also request information or advice at the OMIC office, located at Calle San Agustín, 54, by calling 922 314 313 or writing to omic@lalaguna.es.
