The Town Hall of La Orotava activates for the first time the Consumption Vouchers campaign ‘I shop in La Orotava’ with 300,000 euros. The initiative will start on September 8, coinciding with the back-to-school period, and will allow residents to save up to 100 euros on their purchases.

The Tenerife municipality of La Orotava will launch its first Consumption Vouchers campaign next September, a measure aimed at stimulating the local economy and alleviating family expenses during the back-to-school season. The mayor, Francisco Linares, presented the initiative this Thursday alongside the Councillor for Commerce, Deisy Ramos, and the president of the Federation of Merchant Associations of Tenerife (FAUCA), Abbas Moujir.

The campaign, which will be developed under the slogan ‘I shop in La Orotava’, will have a total budget of 300,000 euros, of which 265,000 euros will be directly allocated to subsidising the vouchers. The rest will be used for the technological and administrative management of the programme. Each voucher will have a value of 20 euros, but the consumer will only pay 10 euros, as the council covers the other 10 euros.

Residents will be able to purchase a maximum of ten vouchers per person, which represents a potential saving of 100 euros. In total, each user can make purchases worth 200 euros by only spending 100 euros. The purchase of the vouchers will be made through the website set up for the campaign, www.yocomproenlaorotava.com, starting from September 8.

The start date is not coincidental: the Town Hall has strategically chosen the back-to-school period, when families face higher expenses for school supplies, clothing, and footwear. “It is a time when local commerce sees significant purchasing activity and when families need economic relief,” stated Linares.

The Councillor for Commerce, Deisy Ramos, highlighted that the initiative aims to “provide a tool that benefits both consumers and participating establishments, which will see their activity strengthened and have the opportunity to attract and retain customers.” Ramos insisted that every purchase in the municipality “has a direct effect on the local economy” and represents “an investment in the present and future of La Orotava.”

Businesses wishing to join the campaign can send an email to yocomproenlaorotava@fauca.org. The more establishments that participate, the greater the economic impact and the more attractive the initiative will be for consumers. The mayor reminded that the municipality has a historically rich commercial fabric, with many centenary businesses, and that the Town Hall supports the sector throughout the year with promotional actions, specific campaigns, and advisory services.

This first edition of the Consumption Vouchers is here to stay, according to Linares, who emphasised that the measure is part of a broader strategy to stimulate local commerce. The goal is to encourage purchases in nearby shops, promote consumer savings, and contribute to the economic reactivation of the municipality.

For the residents of La Orotava, the campaign represents an opportunity to save on their back-to-school purchases while simultaneously supporting local businesses. The vouchers can be redeemed at participating establishments, which will be joining in the coming weeks. The Town Hall expects high participation from both merchants and consumers.
