The Gáldar Town Council will hold its ordinary plenary session this Thursday, July 30, with an agenda that includes motions on the proliferation of the California king snake and the overcrowding of hospital emergency services.
The Plenary Hall of the Gáldar Town Hall will host the ordinary municipal plenary session for the month of July this Thursday, July 30, starting at 9:00 AM. Among the agenda items, two motions that directly affect the quality of life of residents stand out: one regarding the increasing presence of the California king snake in the municipality and another concerning the overcrowding of hospital emergency services.
The first motion, presented by the mixed group Unidos por Gran Canaria, urges the adoption of urgent measures in response to the proliferation of this invasive species in Gáldar. The California king snake, which has already become an ecological and safety issue in several areas of the island, has been frequently sighted in rural and peri-urban areas of the municipality, causing alarm among residents.
The plenary will also debate an institutional motion, supported by all political groups represented in the Town Council, demanding solutions to the overcrowding of hospital emergency services. The initiative aims to convey to the Government of the Canary Islands the need to reinforce staff and resources at the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital, which serves the population of Gáldar, as well as to improve coordination with the health centres in the municipality.
In the section on agreements, an addendum to the agreement with the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council will be submitted for approval to integrate the municipality's electric vehicle charging stations into the island network. This measure, framed within the sustainable mobility strategy, will allow residents to access a broader and more unified network of charging points.
Another relevant point is the report on the agreement between the Health Department of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Municipal Institute of Drug Addiction and Intervention in Social Areas (IMTAS) of Gáldar. This agreement ensures the continuity of outpatient therapeutic programmes for individuals with addictive disorders, as well as pharmacy, laboratory services, and specific programmes for minors and street educators.
Additionally, the plenary will address the initial approval of a minor modification of the General Planning (PGO) in the area of the Rural Settlement AR-16 Los Lomos. This technical modification aims to adjust urban planning to the current needs of the area, without altering its classification as rustic land.
The session will be broadcast live via Radio Gáldar (107.9 FM) and the official Facebook channel of the Town Council. Interested residents will also be able to present requests and questions at the end of the plenary, following the usual procedure.
The July plenary takes place in a context of growing citizen concern over safety and health, two key issues that will shape local political debate in the coming months. The municipal corporation hopes that the approved motions will help drive concrete actions at both the island and regional levels.
