The Gáldar City Council has put out to tender the rehabilitation works of the Casa de Borges Linares, in the San Isidro neighbourhood, to transform it into a sculpture school dedicated to the local artist. The budget amounts to 254,486 euros, funded by the Neighbourhood Plan.
The municipality of Gáldar is taking a firm step to recover its historical heritage and enhance artistic training. The City Council has tendered the rehabilitation works of the Casa de Borges Linares, located at 10 Santiago Machín Street, in the San Isidro neighbourhood. The building, which is in a notable state of disrepair, will be converted into a sculpture school dedicated to the renowned Gáldar sculptor Juan Borges Linares.
The project has a base tender budget of 254,486 euros, which will be covered by funds from the City Council's Neighbourhood Plan. The initiative comes from the Tourism Department, led by Ulises Miranda Guerra, and is supported by a project developed by the Urban Planning Department, headed by Heriberto Reyes Sánchez.
The intervention includes the reform and expansion of the current dwelling to adapt it to its new use as a cultural and educational facility. According to municipal sources, the proposal will maintain the simplicity of the façade and part of the original layout, and will include informative panels about the life and work of Borges Linares as a tribute to the sculptor and his former residence.
The project will also provide the building with a sculpture workshop intended for training and artistic creation. The future school aims to be a local cultural facility, designed for community use, and aspires to become a regional reference in sculpture education.
The rehabilitation will completely renew the structure and facilities of the building, which is currently in poor condition. The tender responds to a citizen demand for the enhancement of this space linked to the Gáldar artist.
Juan Borges Linares is a prominent figure in the field of sculpture in the Canary Islands. With this initiative, the Gáldar City Council aims not only to preserve his legacy but also to promote artistic creation and provide a training resource for the residents of the municipality and the region.
