The Town Hall of Guía opens this Thursday, July 30, the registration period for the fourth route of the 'Discover Guía' programme, a circular walk of 10.6 kilometres that combines coastal landscapes, archaeological sites, and the Silva bridges.
The Town Hall of Santa María de Guía has announced the opening of the registration period for the Circular San Felipe – Tagoror del Gallego, the fourth route of the hiking programme 'Discover Guía'. Applications can be submitted from 10:00 AM this Thursday, July 30, through the municipality's Tourism website.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested parties must register online at the address provided by the Tourism Department, headed by Alejandra García Díaz.
The circular route has a total length of 10.6 kilometres and is designed for people accustomed to hiking. The difficulty is medium-low, although there are some sections where the terrain may be slippery, so mountain footwear is required and the use of trekking poles is recommended.
The route will start at the church of San Felipe and ascend through the San Felipe and Calabozo ravines, passing near the Silva Bridge until reaching El Hormiguero. From there, participants will continue along the Valerón dam to the Tagoror, located at the top of the El Gallego mountain, a site of great significance for the island's aboriginal society. From this point, panoramic views of the entire northern coastline of Gran Canaria can be enjoyed.
The return will be via the Camino Real de San Felipe, also known as Cuesta de Silva, with a stop at the Cenobio de Valerón. The effective walking time is approximately three and a half hours, while the total duration of the day is estimated at around six hours.
The organisation warns that, due to the steep gradient concentrated over a few kilometres during the descent, special caution is advised for individuals with knee joint issues. The 'Discover Guía' programme aims to promote knowledge of the municipality's natural, archaeological, and historical heritage through guided routes. On this occasion, the Circular San Felipe-Tagoror del Gallego offers a unique opportunity to combine enjoyment of the coastline with the contemplation of civil engineering structures like the Silva bridges, as well as archaeological sites from the aboriginal era.
Participants will have the chance to closely explore the archaeological legacy of the area, including the Cenobio de Valerón, one of the most important troglodyte complexes in the Canary Islands, and the Tagoror of El Gallego, a meeting place for the ancient Canarians. The route also allows for a different perspective on the engineering works that span the area's ravines.
Registrations will close once the available places are filled, so interested parties are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible. The activity is subject to weather conditions, so it is advisable to stay alert for any last-minute changes.
The Councillor for Tourism, Alejandra García Díaz, has encouraged residents and visitors to participate in this experience that combines sport, nature, and history. “It is an opportunity to discover unique corners of our municipality and enjoy a day of camaraderie in a privileged setting,” she stated.
