The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has hosted the security meeting for the Fiesta del Pino 2026, where the deployment of over 400 personnel for the main events on 7th and 8th September was presented.
The Fiesta del Pino 2026, declared of National Tourist Interest, is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors with a comprehensive security plan. The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands held this coordination meeting on Wednesday, 29th July, during which the Security Plan governing the main events of the celebration in Teror was presented.
More than 400 agents from the Civil Guard, National Police, Local Police, and Canary Police will ensure safety during the festivities. The meeting was chaired by the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, alongside the mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, and the parish priest of the Basilica del Pino, Jorge Martín.
Representatives from the Teror City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the General Directorate of Traffic, security forces, Civil Protection, the Diocese of the Canary Islands, and the companies Global Salcai-Utinsa, Provital, and Cansegur also participated in the meeting.
The plan maintains the same traffic measures, restrictions, personnel, and technical and surveillance resources as last year, when an increase in visitor numbers was recorded. This year, a similar influx is expected, as the Romería falls on a Monday and the Day of the Pino on a Tuesday, both public holidays.
As a new feature, the deployment will include the Drone Unit of the Local Police of Telde and a closed-circuit surveillance camera system installed in the squares and streets of Teror's historic centre with the highest foot traffic. These tools will allow for rapid identification of conflicts or incidents during the days of 7th and 8th September.
The mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, highlighted the importance of coordination among all administrations and security bodies to ensure the peaceful development of the festivities. For his part, the Government Delegate, Anselmo Pestana, emphasized that the deployment is designed to respond to any eventuality and ensure the protection of attendees.
The Fiesta del Pino, held in honour of the Virgin of the Pino, patron saint of Gran Canaria, attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year. The security plan includes traffic closures and parking restrictions in the historic centre of Teror, as well as an increase in public transport to facilitate access.
Residents of Teror and visitors should pay attention to the authorities' instructions and official channels to learn about the schedules and areas affected by the security measures. The organization recommends arriving early and using public transport to avoid crowds.
