The Teror City Council has published the rules for participation in the traditional Livestock Fair of the El Pino Festival 2026, which will be held on August 23 at the Finca de Osorio. The total budget for prizes and transport aid amounts to €21,460, nearly €5,000 more than the previous year.
The Teror City Council, through the Department of Rural Development and the Department of Festivities, has opened the call for livestock farmers from Gran Canaria to participate in the Livestock Fair of the El Pino Festival 2026. The event will take place on Sunday, August 23 at the Finca de Osorio, and the registration period began this Wednesday, July 29, and will extend until August 7.
The main novelty of this edition is the increase in the budget allocated for prizes and transport aid, which reaches €21,460, nearly €5,000 more than in 2025. Of this amount, €14,460 is allocated to category prizes and €7,000 to subsidising the transport of the animals.
According to the City Council, the councillor for Rural Development and the Environment, Irene Ortega, has stated that they wanted to "support the primary sector of the municipality and the island, recognising the efforts of livestock farmers and promoting participation in one of the most emblematic events of the El Pino Festival."
Registration can be done in person at the Citizen Attention Office of the Teror City Council, located at Plaza Muro Nuevo, number 2, or electronically through the municipal Electronic Headquarters. Interested parties must submit the participation application, a photocopy of their ID, the Annual Guide to Livestock Competitions for 2026, the animal's passport or vaccination booklet, and other documents such as a certificate of being up to date with tax obligations and Social Security.
Livestock farmers from all over Gran Canaria can participate, although preference will be given to those from Teror due to capacity reasons. The maximum number of livestock heads allowed is 450, distributed as 150 for cattle, 120 for goats, 120 for sheep, and 60 for horses. The entry time to the Finca de Osorio has been brought forward this year, now from 7:00 to 10:00 hours.
Participating animals must meet strict health requirements: they must be healthy, identified with ear tags or microchips, and must have been milked the day before the event. Failure to meet this last condition will result in immediate disqualification by the jury.
Prizes are distributed by categories: €5,200 for native cattle, €3,740 for foreign cattle, €1,720 for goats, €1,720 for sheep, and €2,080 for horses. Regarding transport aid, up to a maximum of 4 heads of native cattle, 4 of foreign cattle, 8 of goats and sheep in total, and 2 of horses will be subsidised.
The Livestock Fair of the El Pino Festival is a century-old tradition that attracts hundreds of visitors to the Finca de Osorio each year, a natural space managed by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. For local livestock farmers, it represents an opportunity to showcase their best specimens and compete for prizes that recognise the quality of the island's livestock.

The Livestock Fair is part of the events of the El Pino Festival, which this year will be celebrated from August 21 to 24.
