Local resident Antonio Carmelo Sánchez was the herald of the festivities of Our Lady of Las Nieves in El Palmar, which began on July 25 with the transfer of the image from the Ermita de la Peña. The programme extends until August 15.

The neighbourhood of El Palmar, in the municipality of Teror, has kicked off its traditional festivities in honour of Our Lady of Las Nieves. Last Saturday, July 25, the image of the Virgin was transferred in procession from the Ermita de La Peña to the local Parish, marking the start of an extensive programme of events that will last until August 15.

The proclamation of the festivity was delivered by local resident Antonio Carmelo Sánchez Sánchez, who took the opportunity to recall moments and people from the neighbourhood who have been present in previous editions. Following the speech, the performance by Los Guayres del Palmar provided a musical highlight to the inaugural day.

This year's programme includes a varied range of activities, both religious and recreational. This Thursday, July 30, the ‘Youth Day’ will be celebrated, while on Friday, July 31, the concert ‘Voices with Roots of the People’ will take place. The offering, scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at 20:00, will feature traditional games and activities with animals for children and adults, in addition to performances by the Parranda ‘Pa´lante’ and soloist César Santana.

Humour will arrive on Tuesday, August 4 at 20:30 with Maestro Florido. The main day of the festivity, Wednesday, August 5, will see the procession of the image of the Virgin around the parish temple, followed at 20:30 by the show ‘Making a Path’ by Pedro Manuel Afonso.

On Friday, August 7, the ‘Cuban Night’ is scheduled, and on Saturday, August 8, ‘The Descent of the Hard Egg’ will take place, featuring musical performances by Pepe Benavente, Reina de sal, Furia Joven, among others. The festive events will culminate on Saturday, August 15 with the return of the image of the Virgen de Las Nieves to the Ermita de la Peña.

The festivities in El Palmar are one of the traditional summer events in Teror, attracting both locals and visitors. The organisation has planned a special device to ensure the safe development of the events.
