The Gran Canaria municipality of Teror hosted the 30th edition of the Villa de Teror Latino Festival last weekend, with a massive turnout. The lineup was headlined by Peruvians Tony and Mimy Succar and the orchestra Tromboranga.
The Villa de Teror Latino Festival celebrated its thirtieth edition on July 24 and 25 with a massive public participation, according to the Teror City Council. The event, organised by the Festivities Department led by councillor Angharad Quintana, was sponsored by Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias and has consolidated three decades of history.
Saturday, July 25, was the big night, featuring an international top-tier lineup. Peruvians Tony and Mimy Succar, the first artists from their country to win a Grammy at the main gala, delivered a show that fused tradition and modernity, accompanied by Kenyi Succar. The orchestra Tromboranga, a European reference for hard salsa, also took to the stage with a powerful trombone section that paid tribute to New York salsa from the 60s and 70s.
On Friday, July 24, the 'Gran Canaria Joven' day was celebrated, supported by the Education and Youth Department of the Gran Canaria Cabildo through the Gran Canaria Joven programme. This initiative offered young audiences participatory workshops, exhibitions, screenings, parades, and concerts by Dos de Azúcar, Havana 500, Yet Garbey, Idel El Mulatito, and DJ Ruymán Melián.
During both days, Plaza de Sintes was the epicentre of salsa music, with thousands attending concerts, workshops, and Latin dance classes. The festival also featured performances by the dance academies of Gran Canaria Paso a Paso Las Palmas and the Orchestra La Golosina.
The success of this edition reaffirms the relevance of the Villa de Teror Latino Festival as an unmissable event for Latin music lovers in the Canaries. The organisation is already working on the next edition to continue offering a quality programme.
