The Spanish Nía Suardiaz has mathematically secured the world title of Wingfoil Surf-Freestyle after finishing second in the Gran Canaria GWA Wingfoil World Cup 2026, held at Playa de El Burrero in the Gran Canaria municipality of Ingenio. The 25-year-old from Tarifa thus adds her second world crown, reclaiming the title she lost last season.
Suardiaz arrived at the Gran Canaria event as the leader of the ranking and needed a result that would allow her to maintain her lead over her pursuers. In the final, held on Saturday, the Austrian Viola Lippitsch won with 22.30 points, while Suardiaz scored 19.67 points. The third place went to fellow Tarifeña Sofía Ginzinger, just 12 years old, with 16.10 points, and the Dutch Bowien van der Linden rounded off the final with 13.99 points.
Suardiaz's consistency throughout the season has been key to her title win. The Spanish rider won in Leucate (France) and finished second in Tarifa and Gran Canaria, allowing her to accumulate enough points to be crowned champion before the final stop of the circuit. The updated overall ranking places her at the top, ahead of Ginzinger in second and Lippitsch in third.
