The Social Services Department of Telde is driving the renewal of the signage and institutional identification of the Social Day Centre for the Elderly, aiming to improve orientation and accessibility for users.
The Telde City Council, through the Social Services Department led by Adela Álvarez, has launched a project to renew the signage and institutional identification of the Social Day Centre for the Elderly in Telde. The initiative seeks to facilitate orientation and accessibility for users, as well as improve the functionality of the facilities.
The intervention includes the acquisition and installation of institutional flags, an informational directory, and new interior signage. These elements will allow for better identification of the building and facilitate movement and orientation for the individuals who visit the centre daily. Furthermore, it will ensure the correct institutional representation of the property, in accordance with current state, regional, and municipal regulations.
The Social Day Centre for the Elderly in Telde is the only specific municipal resource dedicated to the care of the elderly in the municipality. It is managed under a collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The centre offers comprehensive and personalised daytime care, promoting active ageing, social participation, mutual aid, prevention of unwanted loneliness, and maintenance of personal autonomy. Additionally, it develops a wide range of educational, cultural, recreational, and health promotion activities that contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of its users.
According to data recorded as of April 21, 2026, the centre has 6,725 registered users, a figure that highlights the high demand and the important role this municipal resource plays for the elderly in Telde.
The Councillor for Social Services, Adela Álvarez, has emphasised that “this action, although it may seem simple, represents a significant improvement for the daily lives of those who use the Senior Centre. Clear and accessible signage facilitates orientation, enhances care, and makes the facilities more welcoming and functional for everyone.”
Álvarez added that “the municipal government continues to work on improving public spaces and the services we offer to our elderly, ensuring that the centre has all the necessary elements to provide quality care that meets the needs of the thousands of people participating in its activities.”
The contracting of the works has been carried out jointly, including the supply and installation of all elements. This approach responds to criteria of administrative and operational efficiency, allowing the action to be executed as a single functional unit and optimising available resources.
The improvement of the signage will directly benefit the more than 6,700 users of the centre, as well as their families and visitors. With this action, the Telde City Council aims to make a key space for the well-being of the elderly in the municipality more accessible and welcoming.
