The Plaza de San Agustín in Los Realejos will host the twelfth edition of the Gastronomic Show of the Bonita Potato this Saturday, July 25, with activities starting at 11:00 and the Grand Wine and Potato Festival in the afternoon.

The Tenerife municipality of Los Realejos is preparing for a day dedicated to its most emblematic product. The XII Gastronomic Show of the Bonita Potato will take place this Saturday, July 25, in the Plaza de San Agustín and surrounding streets, as announced this Wednesday by Mayor Adolfo González, Tourism Councillor José David Cabrera, President of the La Papa Bonita Growers Association Vicente Anatolio Luis Domínguez, Chef Pedro Rodríguez Dios, and Taster Belén López.

The program will kick off at 11:00 with the III Cooking Contest with Bonita Potato, where four island chefs will compete for the best dish. After the jury's deliberation at 12:30, the public will be able to taste some of the proposals. At 14:00, the activity 'Guardians of the Bonita Potato' will take place, featuring a talk and tasting led by farmers from the Icod de los Trigos Agricultural Cooperative.

At 15:00, Chef Diana Marcelino Bermúdez will present a showcooking of Bonita Potato gnocchi with smoked cheese and roasted onion broth, with free tastings. Half an hour later, the La Papa Bonita Association will lead the workshop 'Crazy Tostón. Crushing Bonitas.'

Slow Food CanariasBiodiversa will organise the family event 'Hey, Stop the Fork!' at 17:00, and at 17:30, Chef Pedro Rodríguez Dios and Belén López will present 'High Bonita Potatoes. Treasures Under the Ground', with the Gastronomic Seal of Los Realejos as the backdrop.

El Guachinche Las Galanas, from the La Montaña area, will offer 'Family and Tradition: Taste of the Sea in La Montaña' at 18:00, featuring tastings of grandmother's tuna and stewed octopus with wrinkled potatoes.

The main event will arrive at 19:00 with the Grand Wine and Potato Festival, which will last until 02:00 in the morning. There will be stands from wineries of the Denomination of Origin Valle de La Orotava and dining establishments, accompanied by music from Los Salvapantallas, the show 'Listen to My Song', and DJ Nicky González.

Mayor Adolfo González highlighted that this show values local producers, both of the tuber and of the wines, and described it as an event for all audiences. The Tourism Councillor emphasised that potatoes and wines are two of the most prominent products of Realejera cuisine, and that the initiative seeks the perfect pairing between them.

The show is part of the Fiestas del Carmen of Los Realejos, which began on July 1 and will conclude in the coming days with the Octava del Carmen and the procession of the sailors on Sunday the 26th, and the Monday of Carmen on the 27th. For attendees, this Saturday's event represents a unique opportunity to learn about and taste the bonita potato, a product with local designation of origin, paired with the best wines from the valley.
