The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Department of Festivities, has begun meetings with Carnival groups to finalise their participation in the galas of the 2027 edition, which will be dedicated to Rome.

The Councillor for Festivities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Javier Caraballero, accompanied by the artistic director of the galas, Enrique Camacho, has started a series of meetings with Carnival groups to define their participation in the shows of the 2027 edition, which will have the theme of ancient Rome. The meetings, held this Monday at the Festivities headquarters, brought together representatives from choreographic groups, children's murgas, rondallas, musical groups, adult murgas, and comparsas.

Open dialogue with the groups

During the meetings, which took place throughout the afternoon, the way each category will participate in the galas for the Queen of the Elderly, Children, and Adults was discussed. Caraballero emphasised the importance of listening to the groups to reach a consensus on their role in the shows and ensure they feel comfortable with the format.

The mayor of the Tenerife capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that “we are continuing to advance in the preparation of Carnival 2027 through these working meetings with the groups, listening to their proposals, concerns, and contributions.” Bermúdez thanked the groups for their willingness and noted that their involvement is “fundamental” to maintain the identity of the festival.

A Carnival that looks to Rome

The 2027 edition, under the theme of the Carnival of Rome, promises to be one of the most special in recent years. The Councillor for Festivities explained that ongoing dialogue with the groups is the best guarantee to strengthen a Carnival that is “for everyone.” The meetings will continue in the coming weeks to define the details of the galas and competitions.

For the residents of Santa Cruz, these meetings confirm that the city's grand festival is on track with the involvement of all actors. The groups, for their part, positively assess the City Council's openness to listen to their proposals, which strengthens collaboration between the administration and the groups.

The next meeting will be in the coming weeks, when the technical and logistical aspects of the galas will be addressed. Meanwhile, the groups are already working on their choreographies and repertoires to surprise the audience in 2027.
