The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council activates the registration period for the groups of Carnival 2027, which will be themed 'Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival'. Applications can be submitted until 20 July.
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is already gearing up for its 2027 edition. The City Council has opened the registration period for all groups wishing to be part of a celebration that this year will immerse itself in ancient Rome under the theme “Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival”. Applications can be submitted until 20 July.
Groups called to register
In this first phase, adult and children’s murgas, comparsas, children’s comparsas, rondallas, musical groups, lyrical-musical groups, choreographic groups, and senior groups can formalise their registration. The other categories, such as floats or individual costumes, will open their registration periods at later dates, as reported by the City Council.
Interested groups must process their application through the City Council's electronic headquarters, attaching the required documentation as per the regulatory bases and the list of their executive positions. This procedure is the first major administrative milestone of Carnival 2027 and allows groups to start organising their participation in advance.
A theme that promises spectacle
The chosen theme, “Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival”, promises to turn the streets of the Tenerife capital into a stage of togas, gladiators, and emperors. The Councillor for Festivals, Javier Caraballero, has stated that with this opening “one of the first steps in the organisation of Carnival 2027 is taken” and invited all groups to complete their registration within the deadline to ensure their participation in one of the most important festivals in the Canary Islands, declared of International Tourist Interest.
For the residents of Santa Cruz, this means they can start preparing their costumes and choreographies. The groups, the true protagonists of the celebration, mobilise thousands of carnival-goers and fans each year, and with this advance notice, they ensure weeks of rehearsals and costume design.
A carnival that moves masses
The Carnival of Santa Cruz is not just a festival, but an economic and social engine. The 2026 edition gathered over 200,000 people at the main events, and a similar or greater participation is expected for 2027. The groups are the soul of the celebration, and their early registration allows the City Council to plan the logistics of the stages, parades, and competitions.
“We invite all groups to complete their registration within the established deadline to guarantee their participation,” declared Caraballero, who reminded that Carnival is “the festival of all Tenerife residents.”
Those interested can consult the complete regulations on the municipal website. The registration period ends on 20 July, so there is no excuse to miss this appointment with history, colour, and music.
