Sports councillor of the Cabildo, Yolanda Moliné, and other authorities visited the Inclusive Summer Campus of the Fundación CB Canarias on Tuesday, which is being held at the CEIP Ágora in Santa Cruz de Tenerife until the end of July.
The Inclusive Summer Campus of the Fundación CB Canarias, which began on July 1 at the CEIP Ágora in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, received an institutional visit on Tuesday from the sports councillor of the Cabildo, Yolanda Moliné; the councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero; and the sports councillor of the City Council, Alicia Cebrián. The president of the Foundation, Santiago Cacho, was also present.
The activity, which will run until the end of the month, provides a space where children and young people with and without disabilities share experiences and learn values through basketball. This is the fourth edition of the campus, which has established itself as a benchmark for sports inclusion on the island.
Institutional Support for Inclusion
Yolanda Moliné highlighted that the campus “is a magnificent example of how sport can become a tool for inclusion, coexistence, and equal opportunities.” The councillor praised the consolidation of this initiative and stated that the Cabildo “will continue to support projects like this that help break down barriers.”
For her part, Águeda Fumero noted that “this campus represents the true spirit of our work in social action: creating meeting spaces where sport is a tool for real inclusion.” The councillor emphasized collaboration with third sector entities and sports foundations as key to providing accessible leisure alternatives.
Basketball as a Social Tool
Alicia Cebrián expressed that “it is a great joy to celebrate another year of this Inclusive Summer Campus, demonstrating that sport is much more than a physical activity.” The councillor added that the City Council of Santa Cruz will continue to support projects like this because “we believe in sport for all, which unites and breaks down barriers.”
The campus takes place at the CEIP Ágora, an educational centre that hosts participants in a fully inclusive environment. Attendees, of different abilities, share training, games, and recreational activities, fostering coexistence and mutual respect.
The initiative, driven by the Fundación CB Canarias, has the backing of the Cabildo of Tenerife and the City Council of Santa Cruz. For the island's residents, it represents an opportunity for inclusive leisure during the summer, where the youngest can enjoy sport on equal terms.
The campus will conclude at the end of July, leaving a positive balance of values and shared experiences. The authorities agreed that such projects demonstrate that sport has the capacity to build a fairer and more cohesive society.
