The improvement works on the water supply network around the La Hornaca reservoir have been completed, benefiting over two thousand residents of Agua García and surrounding areas.
The Town Hall of Tacoronte and the Cabildo of Tenerife have announced the completion of the expansion and modernisation works of the water network in the high area of the municipality, specifically around the La Hornaca reservoir in Agua García. The works, which began in February and had a budget of 181,160 euros, aim to solve the pressure deficit experienced by residents, especially during the summer months when water demand surges.
The Mayor of Tacoronte, Sandra Izquierdo, accompanied by the fourth deputy mayor and councillor for Contracting, Eduardo Dávila, and the councillor for Water and Sanitation, Suso Machado, visited the area on Wednesday to check the results of the works. During the tour, the municipal officials highlighted that the intervention was carried out by the company Hidrotec Aguas S.L., as part of the Insular Programme for Priority Municipal Works to improve supply networks for municipalities with a population between 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants.
The works included the installation of 276 metres of new piping from the outlet of the La Hornaca reservoir to the street of the same name, as well as another 384 metres to ensure connections between this road and Madre del Agua street. Additionally, new conduits have been installed towards the Fuente Fría track, including Las Mesetas street. The execution of the project involved the opening of linear trenches and the installation of connection chambers at various points along the route, all planned to minimise inconvenience to residents.
The Tacoronte Town Hall has emphasised that this action aims to "dignify the water supply that had previously been provided under very poor conditions for the residents of the area, with barely any pressure and occasional interruptions at certain times of the year." In a statement, the local government highlighted "the cohesive work and commitment demonstrated by the Cabildo of Tenerife to successfully carry out this investment, allowing for the improvement of a crucial infrastructure for Tacoronte."
The improvement of the network will directly benefit over two thousand residents in the high area of the municipality, who until now suffered from cuts and low pressure, especially during the summer months. The Water and Sanitation department has reminded that this work "responds to a long-standing community demand, which after many years has managed to find a responsible and adapted solution from the involved public administrations."
With this intervention, Tacoronte is advancing in the modernisation of its water infrastructure, a priority objective for the local government team. Mayor Sandra Izquierdo stated that "we will continue to work to improve public services and the quality of life for our residents." For her part, the insular councillor for Municipal Cooperation, Sonia Hernández, positively assessed the collaboration between administrations to make this investment possible.
The works have been financed through the insular programme of priority works, which co-finances improvement projects for supply networks in medium-sized municipalities. In Tacoronte, this action adds to other water-related initiatives that the Town Hall has planned for the coming months, aiming to ensure a quality supply for the entire population.
The residents of Agua García and the surrounding streets have already begun to notice an improvement in water pressure, according to municipal sources. The awarded company, Hidrotec Aguas S.L., has completed the works within the scheduled timeframe, and now the pavement and signage in the areas affected by the trenches will be restored.
