Agents from the Environmental Protection Group monitor access and circulation of motorcycles, quads, and bicycles in the protected natural spaces of the island.
The Regional Police – General Body of the Canary Police (CGPC) has launched a surveillance operation on several forest tracks in Tenerife to control vehicle passage and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Agents from the Environmental Protection Group and the Cultural Heritage team conduct periodic inspections to verify that users respect the established limitations and only travel along authorized routes.
The main objective of these controls is to prevent behaviours that could harm the conservation of the forest and biodiversity. Forest tracks are essential for land management, but they are also used by motorcyclists, quads, and cyclists, which requires balancing the enjoyment of the natural environment with its protection. The island regulations govern the circulation of motor vehicles and establish specific requirements based on the type of vehicle and intended use.
The agents supervise both access and circulation on the tracks, paying special attention to areas of higher ecological value. The operation is preventive in nature and aims to raise public awareness about the importance of responsible use of the forest. The Regional Police reminds that respect for access and circulation rules is fundamental to ensure the conservation of these spaces and allow them to continue being enjoyed safely and sustainably.

The agents also inform users about the current limitations and penalties for non-compliance, which can reach up to 3,000 euros in serious cases.
The initiative has been well received by environmental groups and neighbourhood associations, which have long been calling for more control to prevent the degradation of forest tracks. In recent years, the increase in the use of quads and trial motorcycles has caused erosion problems and disturbances to wildlife, prompting the implementation of this operation.
The Regional Police calls for citizen collaboration to respect the signs and avoid irresponsible behaviours. The agents remind that travelling on unauthorized tracks or outside permitted hours can lead to vehicle immobilization and the withdrawal of driving licenses. Additionally, it is recommended to plan routes in advance and consult official maps of authorized forest tracks.
The operation will remain active over the coming months, with particular focus on the protected natural spaces of Teide National Park, Anaga Rural Park, and the Natural Park of the Forest Crown. Agents will conduct both fixed and mobile controls and will coordinate with the environmental agents of the Tenerife Cabildo to optimize resources.
