A man has died on Tuesday after drowning at Playa Blanca, in Puerto del Rosario. Emergency services were unable to revive him.

A man, whose identity has not yet been revealed, lost his life on Tuesday 7th July at Playa Blanca beach, in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura. The incident occurred shortly after half past three in the afternoon, when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre 112 received a call that a person needed urgent assistance on the shore.

Immediate mobilization of emergency teams

A medical ambulance and a basic life support unit from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, members of the Puerto del Rosario Beach Lifeguard Service, local firefighters, local police, and national police also responded.

According to reports from 112, the alert was received at 15:37 hours. The man was brought to the shore by a zodiac-type boat, but when the paramedics arrived, he was in cardiac arrest.

Unsuccessful resuscitation and judicial custody

SUC personnel performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, but were unable to reverse the situation. They ultimately confirmed the man's death on the beach.

The National Police took custody of the body until the arrival of the judicial authority. Officers have begun proceedings to clarify the exact circumstances of the drowning.

An incident that shocks the tourist area

Playa Blanca is one of the most frequented beaches in Puerto del Rosario, both by residents and tourists. Although details about how the accident occurred have not been disclosed, the emergency response was coordinated quickly, albeit without the desired outcome.

Local residents and visitors are shocked by what happened. The beach remained open during the intervention, although emergency services were present until the operations were completed.

The Puerto del Rosario City Council has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased, pending the completion of official identification. Bathers are advised to exercise caution in the sea and to respect the warning flags.
